back bulb???

Can someone please tell me what a back bulb is? and what to do with it?

I have a odont. type orchid, and reading about them i keep coming across this term and am confused.

you can see the bulbs without leaves are back bulbs.
most back bulbs can be sat on top of Sphagnum moss the bulb may shoot and form a new growth.
back bulbs are called pseudobulbs
pseudobulbs also feed the growth on an orchid as well.

I never do anything with my back bulbs, I just leave them alone. They're just older pseudobulbs which store nutrients and moisture that feeds the rest of the plant in lean times or when new growth starts. As Fred has noted, they can be used to start new plants if you wish.
