Iwan. Apple Blossom 'Fantastic'

I know there is a thread going regarding the different colors of Iwan. I just recently bought one that was yellow and now today I received one from my sis Apple Blossom 'Fantastic' but my real question is the Iwan. in the Cattleya Alliance??? And what care do they need? Picture is below, she is gorgeous!

Iwanagara is in the cattleya alliance and general cattleya culture applies.

Just a note, because the generic names of some of the species in the parentage of this plant have changed, the intergeneric name is no longer Iwanagara. It is Leonara. Also the grex is not 2 words, it is one: Appleblossom. So the name correctly expressed is: Leonara Appleblossom.

What a sweet blossom, Jan! it is such a soft coloring. I love it. The new name is more fitting of such a pretty flower too, don't you think?

Hi Janice, is your L. Appleblossom fragrant? And if so, is it a light scent or maybe stronger? The plant looks very fine.

Bill

And yet another name note: I believe the cultivar name is 'FANGtastic', named for or by Norman Fang of Norman's Orchids. Also, OrchidWiz shows the genus name as being Pittara (rather than Leonara or Iwanagaara). Did I miss yet another change?

phapaephila, Hmmmm....According to this list of orchid genera abbreviations, the artificial genus Pittara contains: Cattleya x Guarianthe x Laelia x Rhyncholaelia x Sophronitis.
If this list is reliable, then Pittara can not be the genus for Appleblossom because Appleblossom contains Caularthron (formerly Diacrum) which Pittara does not.

It would appear that OrchidWiz is OrchidWrong in this instance.

kmarch:

Thank you! I see the error in OrchidWiz, the six genera are listed for Appleblossom in their geneology section. I admit, I can get a bit confused when hybrids are made from more than two species ~ that's why I like primary hybrids!
