What's blooming for me....

I have a few beautiful babies blooming right now...

Phal schilleriana, Phal Ho's Exotic Twist 'Pine Ridge 6', Phal Mini Mark 'Holm', and Phal NOID

And I am impatiently waiting for my Milt. Hajime Ono 'Black Falls' to bloom. It's spike is about 4 inches long right now, and is out of the leaf. I first noticed the spike back on March 2nd, and it was really small, visible through the leaf when sun was shining.

ETA: Phalpal, if you read this...this is the yellow NOID that I thought looked the same as your Phal Little Emperor 'Lee'

Really nice psyc1210!!! I love your Mini Mark; mine came to me stressed and still is a year later.....sigh...

I brought my Emperor Lee over to the computer and it was hard to tell a difference from your NOID. The only very slight variance is mine is a little more spotted on the lower petals. This could just be a variance between plants; they are virtually identical. Do your blooms face in all directions? Mine face north/south/east/west with no system what so ever. I kinda like it.

Jay - Oak Hill has nice Mini Marks.

Okay....so I'm really, really bad.......I just called Oak Hill and added a Mini Mark to my species order. Sharyn got hers from them at the same time I got one from OrchidWeb; hers is great and mine is barely hanging in there.

Oh yeah....I also added a Phal (Fortune Buddah x Brother Pumpkin). Hey, they are on sale!?

It's all psyc1210's fault.

LOL

I have two Mini Marks, only because one was a present for my mother, and she is afraid she'll kill it, so I've been keeping it. The more the merrier. Can't have too many Mini Marks. Maybe when you get your second one, the other will perk up

I keep my two right next to each other, and they started their spike within the same week, and started opening the buds within the same week as well. Worked out perfectly.

My blooms on the yellow NOID pretty much face wherever they want. I have two facing backwards, one facing forwards, and one that tilts to the left a bit.

JoBeth you must have gotten the last one :>( I gave her my list of gotta haves and also told her of my love of primaries and she didn't mention the one you got. She's a great lady and is helping me shop!

My honghenensis and hainanensis - sure hope I spelled those correctly - are doing great and are sooooo cute. My next goal is to learn how to pronouce them.

I wanted to update my bloom thread because I am so freaking excited. I just did watering today, and found a spike on my Phal Fantasy Musick, a spike on both of my Phal Mini Mark 'Holm', a subspike on a NoID Phal which is a splash petal, TWO new spikes on my Phal Brother Sara Gold (which is still holding onto 2 spikes from last year), and a bud that came up from nowhere on my Paph, which is essentially a NoID...

This is my FIRST ever Paph bud while in my care. My other Paph hasn't done a thing at all. So the Maudiae Paph that I have in bud right now is also starting a new growth.

Anyway, can you tell I'm excited?!?

Ooooo the Fantasy Musick and Mini Mark Holm! I still don't have one of either yet. I'll just have to drool over the pics of yours.

I still drool over your Brother Sara Gold. I love it!

Congratulations, Jo Beth! I also have the very first bud on any of my paphs.(Okay, I only have three). I am so excited I posted pics of the bud even though its stem is only about 1/2 inch long. It's a great accomplishment when you've never bloomed them before. Good growing

Alright, here is a pic of my Phal Mini Mark 'Holm' twins...

Also while I'm updating what I've got going on in bloom, and what's coming..my Phal Fantasy Musick decided to blast 3 buds..but is now growing a new bud. Hopefully it'll hold onto that one. My Phal Brother Sara Gold is blooming on two spikes..I have my yellow NoID Phal that is getting ready to bloom in a couple weeks..my Phal lueddemanniana has one bud. My Phal braceana is beginning to open...so I'll include a teaser for that one hehe

I'm really happy with the braceana bloom. When I bought it from Al, orchidexchange.com he told me that he wasn't sure whether it would be a brownish color, or the purplish color...I was hoping for the brownish. I got what I wanted!

I can't wait for my lueddemanniana to bloom. You can see the markings on the bud, and boy are there a lot of markings!

Tomorrow is watering day, so maybe I'll come across some more surprise spikes!

How exciting to see all these beautiful orchids! Now, I wanna go out and get a mini 'Mark Holm' and some of the other phals mentioned.

Also, love the white den of Phalpal. Is that a kingianum? I want one!

Yup, it's a Dendrobium kingianum (sp??) It has been so easy to grow; I grow it along side my Cymbidiums. It has the strongest fragrance of any orchid, any flower for that fact, that I have ever known. Word of caution: Never drive three hours in a car with a Dend king in full bloom! An hour into the drive home we were ready to duct tape him to the top of the car!!! Seriously.

So today I found a new spike starting on my Dtps Anna-Larati Soekardi, and what appears to be a bud on my Phal tetraspis!

My Mini-Mark just finished blooming. I got it from Oak Hill in January. Maybe they still have some. I also have a NOID yellow Phal that looks exactly like yours, Psych! Maybe they are both from TJ's?

OK it is pretty annoying that I'm not allowed to post photos of my plants-- so if you'd like to see them feel free to find them via my signature link-- it is my personal gallery of my plants. These are what I have blooming currently. I'm brand new to orchids....and I love them. These plants are so freaking awesome.

They are all NOIDs...but I think the yellow has a strong resemblance of a "brother" orchid.

Phal lueddemanniana 'Woodlawn' is beautiful!!! I want one as well. I haven't gotten the right culture for the Phals. yet so I'm impressed every time I see everyone's success with them.

And the Cym. is beautiful as well and I know I don't have that one. Must get more pendulous ones after seeing yours.

Sooo, looks like my Phal Fantasy Musick is not what I expected. The bud is opening, and it appears to be white so far, with a yellowish lip. It's not fully open so i can't see a whole lot...either way, I thought it was supposed to have a pinkish purple lip and freckles. Kinda disappointed.

Edited to add: I'm attaching a picture of the flower beginning to open. Any input on what it may actually be would be greatly helpful. When fully open, I guess I am going to email Carter and Holmes, to see what this thing is, and/or why I didn't receive a Fantasy Musick as I had ordered.

JoBeth~ Wait until the bloom fully opens. You could have very well received a Fantasy Musick. Perhaps an Alba form?

Here are updated pictures of the flower, and a picture of it next to a
Mini Mark to give an idea of flower size. It is extremely small

that is really really small but so cute!

edit: I just looked up Fantasy Music, and it looks like a pink version of Mini Mark, so I understand your disappointment (I would be disappointed too). hope you'll get another one right (maybe for free)!

JoBeth go here Big Leaf Orchids

Scroll down the page. There is no picture but you will find two places with the name. On one of the missing picture slots, note Peter Lin had a picture of one that was obviously yellow, thus his comments about the maculata influence.

I looked up the pedigree - the cross is Micro Nova x equestris = Fantasy Muscik. Micro Nova is maculata x lobbii

If your plant is seed grown then it could very easily turn out yellow. If it is mericloned or stem propped, it should be the pink version but as we know, sometimes "kinks" happen when the chemicals are applied in the mericlone/stem prop procedure.

I LOVE that little bloom If you are unhappy with it, KY will be happy to give it a good home. It makes Mini Mark look huge.

Brooke

I checked the parentage as well last night, and saw the pedigree...and was wondering if there was an alba in there somewhere. I still am a little disappointed bc I thought I was getting the Fantasy Musick that I have been pictures of with the pink/purple. It definitely is a cute flower, not what I expected at all! Can't get over how tiny it is either

Carter & Holmes has a great rep for correcting mistakes. Show them the picture and they will probably send you the correct one. Also ask, please, if it was a meristem or seed propagation. I'm curious

I just called them, and they said their plants are seed propagated. They also said that they have one blooming right now, and would send me one with the pink lip.

Heck I'll split it 50/50 with you JoBeth I never win with the tickets I buy so need some help from someone luckier than I am.

Yes, Kevin that cute little phal has my name all over it but JoBeth isn't giving it up I guess I will have to put the Fantasy Muzick on my list.
I will be able to afford it after I split the lottery with her

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I take the last few post is that the tiny little creamish-yellowish phal was not a Fantasy Muzick was it? I seem to recall FM looking like a pink Mini Mark. Am I reading it all right?

Kevin, we're assuming that it is a Fantasy Musick, but an alba form. I didn't even take into consideration a possibility of an alba Fantasy Musick, but according to the link Brooke included, it is apparently a rare form.

I got very confused when you said alba because I didn't recall any mention of alba and the warning bells went off because hybrids don't have varieties and yellow isnt' alba. So I went back and re-read posts.

I looked at the page Brooke cited. When you said alba, did you mean the yellow form mentioned on the Big Leaf Orchid page?

I did a general search for Fantast Musick and found a different Big Leaf Orchid page that listed a Fantasy Musick (flava) - flava = yellow. Here's that page (scroll down about 1/4-1/3 the way): Big Leaf Orchids

It looks just like the pink FM but in oranges, like a Mini Mark. Still there are all sorts of reasons a flower could come out small and pale: low light, first flowering, small or weak plant, hybrid variation, etc., etc., etc., and the form and lip shape are correct for the hybrid Fantasy Musick..... LOL while initially skeptical that it was Fantasy Musick (or Fantasy Musick - yellow form) I guess I've/you've managed to convince myself/me it is. LOL

Kevin,

Yes I meant the yellow form. I don't know why I mentioned alba...I confused myself, lol.

Thanks for that link. That one on that webpage is very cute too...Either way, I have a tiny cute flower, whether I know what it actually is or not.

JoBeth: Your Mini Mark is adorable. Mine blasted quite a few buds this year, but I managed to get a few flowers. I also have a Fantasy Musick from Carter & Holmes. This was it's first time blooming and I did not get any freckles! The lip is very pink and it's a very cute flower, just like the Mini Mark, but I don't know why there are no spots on this one. Ahh.........maybe next year.

PhalPal: Your cym is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!

Sharyn,

When i talked to carter and holmes over the phone, he said the one he has, has a hot pink lip, no freckles. That is what they are sending me. So I guess if I want one with the freckles I'll have to go to Al's to see if I can find one in bloom.

Kevin JoBeth's plant is seed propogated and the parent Micro Nova is maculata x lobbii and the yellow coloration would come from that generation.

JoBeth I can't wait for you to get the pink version and get side by side pics.

Brooke
