I went to a different Publix today, wow : )

I went to a different Publix today after physical therapy. I found two Phal NOID's but they are so cute. After seeing Jerry's find the other day, I had to get both of them. Even though you can't see it in the pictures, they both have subspikes growing.

As soon as I got home, I took them out of their pots, sure enough, they both had a wad of sphag stuck in the middle of their roots and the roots were rotting in that area. I cleaned them up, put them in Better Gro Special Orchid Mix, additional perlite, and some Sphagnum Peat Moss, my new favorite mix. Of course there are peanuts in the bottom. After soaking everything in worm tea, I replanted them and misted with worm tea again. I hope I can get the subspikes to grow. Both of these plants are fully bloomed and were dry as a doornail when I bought them, except for that wad of sphag, yuck!!! Here they are:

The flowers in the top middle are one plant and the flowers on the right and bottom are the other plant. Both flowers have ruffled edges and wine red splotches. The flowers on the right and bottom have yellow edging the inside petal.

That is a great find...especially in Publix...a supermarket of all things.

I found a great Phal one time in BJ's wholesale. I was stunned at the health and vigor of the plant. Better than certain hardware garden centers.
