| From what I can see, the spots look like a little damage-maybe from shipping or handling down the road. The bloom is beautiful! Congratulations on the spike, also! Keep us posted!

| I agree with patticake, handling damage or possibly also an old insect munch. I don't think you have anythign to be concerned about.

| As a general rule if you feel a brown or black spot and it is dry and hard, it is usually physical damage and not overly serious to the plant. If it is wet and soft it is probably a fungus or bacteria problem and is serious. Fungus and bacteria is especially obvious since in a day or two it will get bigger.

| Bunny, I just saw a Blc Husky Boy yesterday at a garden place. It looked very much the same, so I would say your tag is correct. Unless they are both wrong! |

| I checked your orchid name in OrchidWiz, and the photo in that program looks just like your photo. Rest easy, the name is correct (except for the usual cattleya genus name changes...). Rhynchosophrocattleya (Rsc.) Husky Boy = Rhynchosophrocattleya Evergreen x Sophrocattleya Orglade's Glow Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on your phal. spike! jeanne |

| Because hybrid orchids exhibit a great deal of variety, photos are not reliable means of ID-ing a bloom. There is little variation with clones so if you match cultivar names you've a better chance. Is there a reason you suspect your tag is wrong?

| No reason I thought it was wrong, I just don't experience with orchid names. My other three didn't come with name tags, so I wasn't sure if that was an "official" name or something else. Plus I give my orchids my own names

| Congrats on the spike Bunny! I got a mini Vanda the other day with some brown spots on the leaves as well. I'll just keep an eye on it... |

| Yes, orchids do have "official" names so even if you do give your plants their own names, don't throw out their tags.

| I firmly believe orchids or just plants in general like having a name. The one time, ONE time, I didn't give a name to some tullips, they died. Every plant that I have given a name, success!

| One test you could do is wipe a damp cotton ball on the underside of the leaves. If you see specks on the cotton ball you may have mites. If the cotton ball comes away clean, you can breathe a sigh of relief. |
