Reblooming paphiopedilums

I have a few of those beauties. I just wondered when is their blooming time? Do they flower in autumn and winter like phals or no?

And also, what should I do to make my maudiae paphiopedilum orchid to bloom? For green-leaf types low temps initiate blooming but what to do with the Maudiae ones?

I really like slippers they are gorgeous!

my sole blooming size paph, bought in bloom over the summer, is in low bud right now....

Aleska, I love Paphs nd have probably 400 or so. I will have some nice pics ot post pretty soon here of things I have in bloom. But to answer your questions:

Some Paphs bloom seasonally like other orchids. Species Paphs, especially villosum, insigne, micranthum, armeniacum, and some others. The Paphs that bloom seasonally come from regions of the wrld that have more pronounced seasons.

Other Paphs come from regions that are more tropical and do not have pronounced seasons. These species and hybrids made from them do not tend to bloom seasonally and just bloom whenever they get around to doing so.

The best thing to do is to give your Maudiae-type is to give it good culture and be patient. A growth on a Paph must be mature before it will bloom so there really isn't much you can do to force it to bloom. Some of my Maudiae's have bloomed at the end of summer, some in winter,some in spring.

You mention that green-leaf Paphs will bloom from low temps. This really isn't accurate. As I mentioed above, some species (and some fo their hybrids) like villosum, which are green-leaf tend to bloom seasonally because the regions they come from have more pronounced seasons, but they don't necessarily bloom every year. If the new growth isn't mature it won't bloom. Furthermore, some of the green-leaf Paphs, like philippense, rothschildianum, etc., etc are tropical and bloom when they want, not necessarily in response to a cool season. Example: My Paph St. Swithin (philppinense x rothschildianum), a green leaf paph, is in bloom now during the summer.

Ok, so enough of my rambling.....

Give your MAudiae-type good culture and it will bloom when it's ready.

At first I didn't like paphs too much.. . I was crazy for phals... But now I like paphs more than phals, in my opinion they are easier to grow. I was really disapointed when I saw how much diseases attacks phalaenopsis (all those black marks, crown rot and that kind of stuff). And also, I had a massive bud blast on all of my phals this year... Slippers are so easy, just it took me some time to develop a 'sense for watering' them... And those wonderfull, long lasting flowers... Mmm... Wonderful indeed. Just the problem is that here, I can find just those commercial hybrids of slippers, there is no species at all. I'm dreaming to get paph rotschildianum, or Paph angel hair, or any sort of paph with those long sepals (or petals

)...

400? WOW. At the moment I have 4 of them, Paph vestalia, paph maudiae hybrid and two of some complex paphs.
