Go Crazy Folks!

I went crazy yesterday at our local Herb and Garden SHow.......the orchid selection was not as good as last year but..........................I bought:

Colm. Wildcat 'Todd'
Slc. Hazel Boyd 'Elizabeth' subv. 'Debbie'
Dtps. Sun Tye Diamond 'KHM1056' (mericlone'
Dtps. Fusheng's Glad Lip 'M'

My favorite is the Fusheng's Glad Lip. I have never had a Colm. Any advice on care?? I understand they are a little tougher????

I might have to go back to the show today and "JUST LOOK" HA!

Nice haul. This just makes me a little nervous since I am going to the Santa Barbara show in a couple of weeks. Oh I think I am going to be in trouble.

Nice additions, Janice! They're beautifull. I'm a sucker for catts especially. I love the color of your slc. Good luck with them.

Vivienne, I'll try. But I can't promise a thing. I hope that my orchid tolerating fiance will understand.

Janice it looks like you rode off like a bandit with those beauties! I have to agree with everyone else too cause I like the Glad Lip as well, but I love the color of the Colm. I heard they are a bit more tricky, but I don't have any, and surely someone here will tell you about them here soon. Nice haul, but be careful if you go back, you might come back with some more

I see that you restrained yourself at the show. Orchidaholics can't help themselves and the best support you'll get from this forum is, "Go get some more!" Love the Glad Lip - it's gorgeous.

To begin with, any orchid can be extremely easy given the right conditions or incredibly difficult given the wrong conditions so in this sense there is no such thing as "difficult" orchids. In some instances it can be laborious to recreate a certain set of conditions for an orchid. Or, more commonly an orchid is not a perfect fit for someone's particular set fo conditions. This is usually what people usually mean when they say an orchid is "difficult" or "tougher."

Having said that I would not at all put Odontocidium Wildcat (the name Colmanara is no longer used for Wildcat) in the "tougher to care for" category. In my opinion it is very easy to provide for, grow and bloom. Many here on the forum will agree.

Odontocidiums do well under general Oncidium culture. Go to the American Orchid Society and download a culture sheet for Oncidiums. Give it a read and if you have any questions let us know. There are lots of folks here who grow these and they will be able help.

Happy Growing!

Janice, your selection is really spectacular. I'm in agreement with everyone here...that Glad Lip is a beauty. I think it's impossible to go to a show and come home empty handed, it's almost sinful.

And now that the day is almost over, I wonder if you went back and just LKED like you said you were going to.

They all look great. I have one Dtps. which looks similar to the third one (Dtps. Sun Tye Diamond ). The white border looks great.

Nice addition.

Nice additions, Janice!

Like Kevin (kmarch) said, grow Odontocidium under basic Ondicium culture. I have an Oncidioda (Oncidium x Cochlioda) which I have in fine coconut/perlite mix and grow under lights in a cool to warm orchid room. It bloomed for me twice last year. The rest of my oncidium types (Miltonias, Comparettias, Tolumnias, etc.) are grown near an east, south, and west windows (depends on leaf type). I water the potting medium when is slightly dry or dry (again, depends on type).

Ugh! I'd like to add hints and tips, but have to go. If anyone don't cover it when I return, I'll add another post.
