My seedling

I bought a dendrobium spectabile. Evidently, it is a seedling. The longest cane is about 3 and 1/2 inches. It is forming another cane, which is shorter.

Do what appear to be mature canes grow longer over time? Or, do I have to wait for it to simply produce longer canes?

How long untill it gets canes that are blooming size (14")?

I hear it needs a lot of light. I have it in a South-East window. Is that usually good for it?

I just noticed that most of this was already answered on a seperate thread. Thanks for the answer, Jerry.

I guess I will be waiting several years.

My largest is 24 inches now (one bud that shriveled at 1/2 inch long - common for the species) and a grower from whom I bought 50 tells me it is still too young. His flower at 30 inches yet I have seen flowreing plants at around 20-24 inches.

My 4 inch seedlings doubled in size this past 6 months and I am waiting to see how they do this summer. Anything under 14 iches will be a disappoiontment.

Once nice advantage is the flowers can last 4 months when in bloom.
