Guarianthe aurantiaca

Formerly Cattleya aurantiaca. Mine bloomed for the first time last year In february. A website I know says theirs blooms in march. Its been in sheath for months now. How long does a Cattleya stay in sheath before it buds? Does anyone here have experience with my orchid?

Also this will be the pod parent for my first attempt at making a cross. This is the pollen parent I'll be using, Blc. Chia Lin "New City" AM/AOS

I love the intense orange of Guarianthe aurantiaca and the throat stripping. My flowers have good form and I like how theres more then two flowers on a stalk. I also like Blc. Chia Lin "New City" AM/AOS large flower size, color and form. It'd be interesting to see what, if it works, what the flowers will turn out to be like. But I can wait....I think. lol

Very pretty flowers. Good luck & eventual success in your first to cross.

Now for an update...

I was rearranging my top shelf on my orchid stand where I have my Guarianthe aurantiaca. While I had them all off the rack so I can clean the shelf and reorganize it so my Phal. noid's blooms arent hiding in the sheer window curtain, I decided to candle my sheaths to see whats going on in there. I have two sheaths this time around and one is about 3/4" shorter then the other. My small sheath didnt reveal anything. However...My large sheath has buds developing inside. they're small and low yet so Im guessing they'll be open about the same time as last year. I cant wait to try to make my first cross. Even if it doesnt work. Its a learning experience. tick...tick...tick....tick.... is it the end of february yet?

Good News!!!

The cross of Blc. Chia Lin x Guar. aurantiaca has not been registered. Therefore, if your cross is successful you can register and name this cross! How exciting is that?

Best of Luck!!
