Neglected cyms As an amature orchid grower I like to think that I provide good care and feeding for my plants. Days like today make me wonder. I have a veggie project at a conference center in the mts. near hear. One of the staff up there has about 30 cymbidiams. It gets hotter than blazes up there in the summer. It gets down to the high teens, at times, during the winter. Many of her plants do not get direct sun, some get to much sun. Although all are near a building, under the eves they are otherwise unprotected from the elements. She feeds them periodically and waters them when she feels like it. Most of her plants are spiking!!!!!!! Less then 50% of mine are spiking. I think I will try her methods of neglect and take my chances. LOL. There just ain't no justice.

Go figure!!! Suppossedly- Cymbs. are in need of high light! What-ever works. Sometimes high light w/ high humidity can work -- where med. light and humidity can work also- It's all a game. (so-to-speak) You have to feel what's right for the plant.. Good luck! ![]()

The only real difference is that hers spike later and the blooms open later than those on the valley floor. She will have blooms until July. I am sure its the cooler air at her elevation.
