Hi everyoneI am new orchid grower and new at this site. I love Cym orchid and I just brought one 2 weeks ago. I so glad that i got it for the on sale price during Christmas sale. This is my first Cym. Can anyone help me to identify its name cause when i got it the tag only said Cymbidium. Is this standard or mini? How do I take care of this when the flower is gone so I may have flower for the next season. Do i need to repot it? I live in Ontario ,Canada. Is the weather suitable for Cym ? Any advice is good, Thank you. |

| Welcome to the forum, lanna. Just like Debbie Hayden I am not an expert either. But I have a few Cyms. that are growing well indoors under broad spectrum lighting. Humidity is of utmost importance in our case ,especially if you are using forced air furnace for heating. Good luck.

| Hi, and welcome to the forum, these like fairly bright light, I keep mine in a west window now, and will put it outside at the begining if june, for our area that is when the danger of frost is for sure past, dont worry about repoting until after the blooms are all gone, then only if you need to, maybe just wait until spring, enjoy your orchid it is beautiful. |

| Well, outdoors when the threat of frost is over, and leave it out until you are expecting frost, as they need a chill to bloom. Otherwise, highest light you can give it. Out doors in summer, these can take full sun until it gets warm, so for sure, full morning sun.

| I know that where I am, cymbidiums probably wouldn't do well. (in home, anyway) If you have a great south window,it would do well. Just make sure that there's plenty of light and humidity! Maybe a tray filled with pebbles that the plant can sit on- above the level of the water. This can raise the humidity for the plant. Good luck!!! ![]() |

| I'm not sure I can be of much help here because I grow my cym outdoors all year. I live in a very dry area and lack of humidity does not seem to be a problem for mine. Give them LOTS of light and keep them VERY crowded in their pots. When you water it, soak it all the way through, flushing the medium. As a beginner, don't be tempted to water it like a house plant giving it little sips daily. They are heavy feeders; I use Osmocote (a time release fertilizer). Mine handle temps 35-105 degrees F easily. I would keep it outside as long as possible in the spring and summer. Good luck - it's gorgeous!! BTW - looks standard to me as well.
