Talking My New Years Present

I received this Psycopsis as a Christmas gift from a friend. It has had a bud for a while and I have been anticipating it opening for what seems like forever. (Isn't it always like that?) I got up today, made coffee and headed over to my "orchid window" and here are pictures of what greeted me this fine morning. Lashelle

Gorgeous!!! My hubby thinks these are ugly, but I think these look like birds with tufts on the tops of their heads. LOVE THEM!!! Absolutely beautiful. Congrats on the bloom and good growing

Lashelle - I am so excited to see yours bloom. I got one about 3 weeks ago that has 2 spikes, but had just lost its flowers just before I got it. It has one flower bud that is swelling and should pop soon.

How long did it take from bud to open for you?

Jay

Jay, the anticipation nearly killed me waiting for the bud to open. This plant was an early present at the first part of December, so I would say it took about 4 weeks. This plant has a second spike and that bud is beginning to swell so maybe it will open as this flower fades. Lashelle

I absolutely love these flowers! I enjoy all the unique shapes and colorations of all the orchids in the "Odontoglossum Alliance"- you know, oncidium, psychopsis (I think that read somewhere that Psychopsis is a brand off from oncidium) miltonia, and obviously ondontoglossum. I have one odontoglossum that bloomed earlier this year. I'll have to post the pix soon.
