2 NOID Oncidiums ID Please

2 beautiful babies without ID's, both cool growers. The first had a colour changein the lip as time went on, large long dark leaves that don't seem to want to green up much, short spikes:

The second one is a small oncid type, long spikes, greens up but is more sensitive to burn also a cool grower:

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you believe I don't remember buying this orchid! What a surprise. It hasn't bloomed in 2 years. ...an accute case of "OCD" (Orchid Compulsive Disorder) I never know what lurks in my collection.
It seems to need a lot of light but lower temps to bloom.

Hi Clarita, I just ordered an onc. hybrid that looks an awful lot like the first picture of your unidentified plant. It is in the Oncidium alliance (an intergeneric hybrid, I believe)and is actually a Miltassia. It is called Charles M. Fitch 'Izumi'. I am not sure that this is your noid, but it looks an awful lot like it. Do a Google on Miltassia and you will find the pic

This is only my second Miltassia, so perhaps someone more familiar will give you their opinion...Beautiful flowers, anyway

Thanks! I also think the first orchid is a Fitch variation. I've been nosing around for a couple of weeks trying to sort it out. Nothing quite fits. I get a lot of orphaned orchids dropped at my doorstep, this was one of them. It was underlight but in fairly good health. Spent the summer/ early Fall outside. I think someone was probably growing it too warm, no blooms so it ended up at "Auntie Clara's Orchid Orphanage"

The violet one, Boy would I like to get another! It is almost in full bloom. It may have a slightly sweet night fragrance... Dying to know what the heck it is. It may have a been a Home Depot purchase but I really am blank on it. I have no records on this plant which is odd. It looks structurally different from a Mttsa and the blooms are not similar... cool grower, really cool.

I have a 3rd which I hope will bloom in spring. Another one that had a hard time adjusting to my new conditions and has skipped bloom cycles...

I already posted a couple of pics for the contest, thought it was a good way to join in here. But maybe next month! ...Thanks for the compliment!

The first one is definitely not Charles Fitch 'Izumi'. The proportions are wrong for the flower which is the major feature in scientificly naming a plant.

Also the color is wrong. Izumiscientifically is a stable hybrid and the color is consistent. I have dozens this year from several growers and the color was always consistent. I have some in bloom now and they are far from your plant.

I get flower spikes up to 3 feet on my plants.

I am not familiar with your blue one. Since it is several years old it is probably not in production now. However, there are several good blues available this year. Fall in Love is my favorite.

The tulip shape of the flower in this photo is typical for the first two weeks than it flattens into a pansy shape and the color darkens.

Thanks for all the suggestions! A friend has the vuyl. The flower shape and plant structure is not remotely the same however the patterning is... It may be an ondont./ milt. cross (?) Does anyone have an opinion on that? The flowers are quite long lasting to my surprise.

The top plant does look like some type of Miltassia "shelob" of some sort but again, the spikes were really short for a "shelob" type. The plant is beastly large... I am running out of references... but not quite ready to give up yet

I think they are both absolutely beautiful no matter what you call them. How about 'Onc Fred' And 'Onc Bob'???
