A Christmas Present

When I received my Harlequin Phals. today from Baldan Orchids, they included a Christmas card along with a present, a Dendrobium I was talking with them about, telling them that I wanted one.

Dendrobium Species 'Parishii" Lavender and very, very fragrant. The flower pic is from Baldan's website. I was so taken back, I almost got a little weepy when I opened this.

And this is one of my latest additions, a Masdevallia (Copper Angel "Highland' AM/AOS x rex 'Maui Titan' CHM/AOS) that I got from another favorite orchid vendor, Machiela's Orchids who happens to live 10 minutes away, lucky me!

Nice addition, sandra.

The vendor has class!!!! What a great gesture, especially at this time.

All the best with the new ones.

Sandra, the Forum Police will be on to you !

Species plants = lower case name, better change it before you get your knuckles wrapped and a stern lecture.

Unless you are giving Santa a knuckle sandwich, you might want to fix your own typo.

Both are beautiful,Sandra. But I am finding that I usually prefer the purple/lavender and white blooms.

What an absolutely wonderful thing for that grower to do--Please post pics when you have your own blooms. In the mean time, enjoy and have a Merry Christmas

Rob, there was no mention of a typo, what I said that her case sensitive naming is incorrect. A species is always spelt in lower case.

BTW here in Australia, to have your knuckles wrapped (ie hit with a ruler) is spelt with a wubbleyoo.

There are country specific spellings, and I would be one of the few on this forum who uses correct grammar and seldom makes typos. I'll just leave it at that.

I love the Masdevallia! I've been browsing around at these...I've been trying to keep my collection more on the miniature side, since college apartments aren't that big, and then I see things like the Dendrobium above it. It kills me! I must have more room! Orchids are entirely too addictive. Beautiful plants sandra!

Me too as yes, I was referring to the wrapping/rapping. Seems strange that Austrailia and Canada would differ much, as we both adopt the other English spellings (u in favourite, neighbour, etc) and other words. I'm always curious about linguistic and literary paths of differing cultures, but I thought beers were a global thing...

Dendrobium parishii

Thus spake the Nomenclature Police

When I moved to Australia from the US, I was quite amused by the different spellings of certain words. My favorites:

tyres = tires
tonnes = tons

I also like some of the phrases. My favorites:

tuck in = eat up
smash repairs = auto body shop

You'll please excuse me now as I have to see a man about a dog.
