Cattleya warsewiczii

I want one of these babies and I'm still looking for one. Are these intermediate or warm growers and are they easy to grow? I love the blooms and just have to have one if I can provide the conditions for it. I'll even take a seedling if I can find one. Does anyone have one and provide me with some information?

Try Oak Hill. They are species specialists.

I think this species is highly variable in quality of blooms. I've seen some pretty poor ones. And I've seen pictures of marvelous ones, at marvelous prices. I have a couple of seedlings that have not bloomed yet, but soon. I recall they like very high light.

Well I checked out Oak Hill and couldn't find anything on them, but I did find info @ Chadwicks. Prices are at around $90 and up, but doesn't say for seedlings or not. I assume NBS or BS, but will send an email to them to find out. Cynthia, where did you get yours and do you know what colors yours are going to bloom? I'm looking for blue or a burgundy if possible

May be a selfing of someones run of the mill plant, don't know, but you may want to email the seller and ask about the parents or his source of the seedlings.

Both of mine are from Floralia and I get them when Floralia comes up to the shows in Southern California. One is a suavissima that should be a very pale pink, almost white, and the other is a cross of 'Rochellensis' and 'Celeste', which looks like it is the same thing as the first seedling, see below. Floralia has been line breeding a lot of Catt species so I am hoping these will be of very nice form. My records show them both to be blooming size now, and I recall when moving one of them to high light, southwest corner of GH, that it was certainly mature. Maybe it just needed the high light to get some blooms going.

I went to ebay and looked at the orchids. I seen them before, even the seedlings from Broodhen (had 10 of them for sale prior). I emailed both of the sellers for colors of blooms and parentage. One never responded and the other had no clue. Pretty scarry. So I wait for the right moment I guess.....

Why does the price vary anywhere from $50 to more than $460? They all seem to be species orchids!

Well, if the price is cheap enough, and you have room for growing a seedling up to blooming, you might go for it. I will probably put one of my plants on our society silent auction when I decide which is the better suavissima, unless they are different enough and both are nicely shaped, so it is not like you have to live with it if it turns out poorly.
