Wardii the (Paph) bud

Well I think Wardii has 'blasted' on me. Yesterday, a little petal stuck out like a wimp tongue, but his overall bud looked dry to me. This is what happened to Claire 'the loon' in December when she 'blasted'.

You all are going to mad at me, but we were having a spring shower this morning so I moved him outside after the rain to soak up that good air, temp and humidity in the cloud cover, basically in the same location he's been in the house.

Well, that's the update on Wardii and I'll use this thread to keep you posted.

Ops (add'l edit) meant to post timeline on Wardii:
-Apr 19 - rec'd in bud and watered. One leaf bent during mailing.
-Seem to be acclimating to his new location, altho I would move him outside during the day after rain showers during cloud cover, but nights are still under 60 here Gatlinburg TN. Bent leaf righted itself during this time period.
-Apr 23 - bud swelled and hung lower than before from the (geez don't know what to call it) "top crown" of his flower.
-Apr 24 - watered.
-Apr 25 - Stuck out a flower petal like a little tongue, but bud looked dry, moved him outside after rain shower.

Update on Wardii

Well Wardii has poked out another petal from his bud. (5 days to stick out another petal ???) So, I guess that's a good sign despite my obsession with moving him outside after morning rain showers. It's just that dry bud look that gets me worried. (It's almost like an addiction, I'll say to myself "they said not to move him - don't move him! don't move him!! and then the next thing you know we're outside and I'm telling him how good he'll feel after his shot of humidity.)

I've read that my indoor set up may be providing him the humidity that I think he is sorely missing here in the mtns of Tennessee. He's in his original 4" pot that he came in and rest in a 6" high glass vase that has a 5-6" wide opening, on top of 2 1/2" of black lava rock which I've filled with water just below the lava rock line. I have vaulted ceilings, with the NE wall being floor to ceiling windows. There's a overhead ceiling fan and he resides about 12 ft away from the windows on top of the 6' TV cabinet. Now that the trees outiside are in their spring bloom, he's getting filtered light during the morning and then indirect light in the afternoon.

I work from home and am on the phone a lot, so our choice of background music these days is latin pop. (Just thought I'd throw that in

Well I hope our little diary of Wardii's progress is of interest to some of you.

-Apr 24 - watered.
-Apr 25 - Stuck out a flower petal like a little tongue, but bud looked dry, moved him outside after rain shower.
-Apr 26 - Tallulah (Paph Petula's Ghost) moved in. Noticed that Wardii's stem seems to have straighened up a bit. When I first got him his stem was shaped like a shephard's hook. Now, he's almost straight. Plus, his chocolate flower inside his bud is filling up the sepals. I wouldn't call it swelling at this stage.
-Apr 29 - Soaked in a pot of water for about 15 minutes for his watering this time. Noticed this evening that he stuck out another petal.

Oh, you would be so proud of Wardii this week . His bud has been very lose all week and as of today he is 2/3rds of the way open. (I took pictures, but can't find the stupid USB cord to transfer them to my computer.) His two bottom sepals are hanging like beagles ears and now we're just waiting for his top sepal to unfold and stand upright. His mouth is in sight, but also continues to open. Remeber that Steve Martin movie 'Little Shop of Horrors' he reminds me of the plant in the movie, but on a much smaller scale.

He still has an indoor and outdoor home. But, again, they are in the basically in the same location and he faces the indirect sun in the same postion. In the morning I take him outside and then he has to come in around 11:00pm because the nights are still very cool here. He even had one day where he enjoyed a light rain shower and the next day you could see that he was even happier.

Well I hope our little diary of Wardii's progress is of interest to some of you.

Wardii's Time Line
- May 6 - Wardii is doing great! He's about 2/3rds open and Freddy is also opening. Tallulah contines to keep her bud very tight, but there has been ever so slight bud swelling. We're all a happy family!!
- May 4 - Another friend moved in - Paph Friedrich von hayek (aka Freddy) a double bud Paph - who I thought was damaged during mailing, but had a pleasant surprise later in the week. Both Wardii & Freddy got soaked during an evening rain shower and I had to bring them in prior to drowning.
-May 3 - Watered him from the sink.
-Apr 29 - Soaked in a pot of water for about 15 minutes for his watering this time. Noticed this evening that he stuck out another petal.
-Apr 25 - Stuck out a flower petal like a little tongue, but bud looked dry, moved him outside after rain shower.
-Apr 24 - watered.
-Apr 23 - bud swelled and hung lower than before from the (geez don't know what to call it) "top crown" of his flower.
-Seem to be acclimating to his new location, altho I would move him outside during the day after rain showers during cloud cover, but nights are still under 60 here Gatlinburg TN. Bent leaf righted itself during this time period.
-Apr 19 - rec'd in bud and watered. One leaf bent during mailing.
