Harlequin Phal.

Some of the post-bloom Phals. I bought 2 months or so ago are now in bloom. One such bloom appears to be a Harlequin type, but not the thick petaled one I am hoping for. The old stalk is still green and the new spike gas only a few flowers.

Wow! WOW!! WOW-whee-wow-WOW!!!

That flower has some of the COOLEST patterning I have ever seen on a Harlequin-type Phal. The white centre is a stand-out!

Truely a keeper!!!

I'm with Kevin on that one. As soon as that Canadian water does the trick and produces a keiki put me on your waiting list for one!

Thanks everyone.

Actually I bought several post-bloom Phals. from that particular store hoping to get the one beauty I had had missed earlier. Those petals were so thick and leathery (Photo attached)

mayres: I am sure there will be a keiki(s) since the old stalk is still green and healthy. And I intend to leave this one intact as well after the bloom is over.

You may get lucky

This one, in your possession is stunning pikevi. The one you let get away, will probably be easy to find this coming spring. They're becoming more and more available, at least around here they are. If anyone will find it, you will, I'm sure pikevi.

flowerchild: I bought a bunch of them in late Sept. from Rona ( I think I posted a picture of them in another post). They were cutting the flower stalks and marking the price down right when I was there. Many were damaged and infested with mealy bugs. I think picked up 18 best looking ones because I wanted to get the one I missed. Surprisingly some of them are in bloom now

sandra: I hope so. The petals and the sepals were so thick. It was quite unique.

patlee: I did some checking on the 'net. But they all look alike!! I have not done serious searching yet but I WILL pass the name along if and when I find it.

Hi Pikevi,

I just picked this one up the other week from Zehrs. It is very similar to the one you are hoping for. Thick and waxy like pedals. The tag says Phal. Black Butterfly, but when I do a search I get Doritaenopsis Black Butterfly.

Steve

I don't know about , Steve B. But , believe it or not, I bought a bunch of them with the hope of getting the one like Steve's.

I am not a statistician but I have a pretty good chance of getting it since I got 18 of the 30 or so they had. But the problem is that I assume that plant was NOT sold prior to the sale (when they cut the spikes)

18 of 30? Man I wish I had your room. I've got 2- 36 x 12 inch shelves. I'd like to repot and hang my Phals to make more room but one of them decided to put out 2 spikes so Im not touching them anytime soon.

Room?? lol

I am squeezing the plants into any free space I can find. Some may be suffereing because of that. Those orchids (Phals.) were sold at $5 each and hence I could take that chance.

I think I am almost getting to stage that I can't care for them as much as I would like to... just too many of them.

Besides the areas are in such a mess I am afraid my wife may give me an ultimatum.

Were you thinking of hanging pots or regular pots that can be hanged?

Good luck with the new spikes.

Heres a pic of my orchid stand I made. Unfortunately my wife has hijacked it for nicknacks and a pointsettia. when I repot my phals, Im going to hang them on the left side by my leopard geckos.
