Den.: Emergency Transplant!

I knocked this Den. from the shelf and luckily it did not incur any major damage. The keiki broke but was still intact with the base bit crushed due to the impact and some root sheaths at the tips were torn. Even the pot did not break.

I treated the base as much as I could and have just finished an emergency xplant. I hope it will survive.

I think the following photos will tell the story.

Whoa Nelly! Hope it does okay. Roots and everything look good though.

Pikevi,
Nothing to worry about. The roots look great and your potting looks fine. Probably have
to wait a couple of years for blooms although I've been fooled with how fast these guys
can bloom.

Thanks mayres and articuno75.

Unless I organize the plants I will keep on having such emergencies. I have two other 'top-heavy' Phal. keikis to take care of soon.

I 'd like to take a lot more care with their transplants. May be I won't wait until the holidays.

Thanks Tobi. The roots are damaged and the base is a bit and I could not do much with it since the roots were from that area.

That will grow pikevi. In my experience, Dends are the easiest of all orchids to grow. The advice I've always read for Dends is to repot when you notice new root growth but they are typically so hardy and grow even if you don't see new growth when you repot. I would keep this especially dry until you start seeing some new root growth and then, begin watering more regularly.

Thanks for the advice. I am a bit guilty of over-watering all my plants. I will be careful with this one.
