Buying young plants

Hi all!
I was browsing Oak Hill Gardens website and fell in love with Phalaenopsis amboinensis.
They sell them in a 2" pot, but there is no * after the price, so it's not ready to bloom yet. On average, how long would it take for this plant to get to bloom size? It's a great price, but I'm not sure if I can wait for more than a year. :P

I would guess with out seeing the pic 12 to 18 months but it could be less

You would need to ask the seller really, they will have grown them from young to flowering size so could give you a good estimate.

I know how you feel about young plants, they are cheaper, but unless you cant get a flowering size one, it is better to spend the bit extra and get a strong flowering size plant, unless there very expensive at such a size, I'm unsure.

We can't tell without seeing the plant how long ti may take, but I've bought zillions of plants from Oak Hill and they're customer service is good in my experience. Give them a call or send an email. They'll be helpful and give you a good idea what to expect.

Is amboinensis one with typical sized Phal leaves? Nope. Orchid Species Encyclopedia shows very large leaves, that is one of the reasons I don't have it. I am going to guess it is going to take a number of years to get up to blooming size. On the other hand, I bought a lot of Phal species very recently from them like schilleriana, stuartiana and leucorrhoda (philippinense) in 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" pots, and the 2 1/2" pots and some of the 2 1/4" pots are now in spike.

I contacted Greg, and he said it'll probably bloom in summer 2009.
