cattleya leaf

My 1 year old cattleya orchids leaves have become yellowish. The root growth is good. I water everyday and sometimes give compost tea. What could be the reason.

Previously I used spagnum moss, but somebody from our group told me it is not good and i converted to charcoal, and bark of teakwood. It gets plenty of sunlight.

Dont use plastic pot. They dont dry up fast enough.
My daily humidity range from 60% to 100% what is yours?
MY daily temperature range 27C to 31C
Let me assume your condition is almost the same as mine
I put my Cattleya on charcoal too. If i put my Cattleya into platic pot they
will have root rot. Try unglaze earthware

I'm thinking that cattleya leaves should take on a slight yellowish coloring when provided with good light. Is this necessarily a problem or could it just be athe change in the season?

Dear Mr. Fred, When I water I also mist the leaves.

Yes, there are new growths coming from the base. My plant get the direct sunlight only in morning till 12.00 as I have an east facing balcony, but afternoon it is very hot here.

Waiting for your reply.

Mani

It sounds like you have seriously overwatered your Catts. If they're in sphag and you're watering every day...that sounds pretty wet unless you live in a desert region. Too wet would also cause your leaves to yellow and drop.

I think Kmarch hit it on the head. Over watering. That much water is going to rot the roots. Your leaves might be the first outward indication that the plant is stressed. I would only water them once a week during peak growing season. What is the mixture of charcole to teak chips? I only use small amount of charcole in my mix's, using perlite to lighten up the mix. How absorbent is the Teak bark, does anyone know?
