Unfortunately, I could only afford a 2 growth on the Kikotome...more would have been another $100 so yeah...I'm good with 2...LOL.

April -- I believe you surpassed me. I'll check my count when I get home tomorrow (Friday) evening.

Therese -- Oh, those are nice new additions. Two growths on the Kikotome is better than one.

Kinkosei

Here is the picture of my New Neo Kinkosei.

I got it from Satomi and it really has a nice look to it. I have it in the East facing window so with the morning sun on the leaves it really shows off the design.

I have just enough for a couple of orchids. Maybe two if I play my cookies right.

I'll let you know when I find the perfect spot

The leaves have a kind of varigation where they thin out so the light shines through them. It is really cool.

I am going to use one of the new bonsai pots that are coming for this one. I think it will look really nice in a purple one!

Forget panhandling. I'll need more money than that for all the orchids on my wish list. Like my husband likes to say, I might have to sell my body at the street corner to get extra money. Ha! Ha! Ha!

I've been dying to buy one each of all the Tolumnias from Hausermann's web site for the longest time. One of these days, I'll lose control and end up buying them. I'm trying to wait until my g/h is ready and I got the environment just right. Temptation is so hard to resist!!!

I'll stick to the panhandling. My body would get me nowhere fast.

Arlene, I'm just about desperate enough to do it but unfortunately I don't think I'd get much for this body of mine. LOL!!!

April, I think your catching up to Arlene or at least getting close to the number of Neos.

Hee! Hee! Hee! Jenny, I'm in the same boat and I haven't even had any children yet.

Arlene, is this pic. of the actual blooms you have now? I think it's really pretty. How hard has it been to grow?

Cindy,

That was last year's blooms. Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic of this year's blooms.

It's fairly easy -- medium to bright light, water 1-2 times a day (I've skipped a few days with no problem), soak once a week. The humidity level in my orchid room ranges 35-50%, depending the time of year.

i have a question regarding neos, because here in the philippines i only saw one that sells this plant, as one plant pnly , and i saw it a couple of weeks ago and i will be trying to go there tommorrow to check if it still there. it is sold at 500 pesos or around US$10. the flower color is white and it is in a plastic basket (just like the ones for strapleafs) and as i remember it has 3-4 growths. my question is, (ive already posted it on the main) is that will it grow here in the philippines? second is how do you propagate neos?

i am crossing my fingers and hoping that this adorable plant is still on the store !!!!

Propagation would be the same as with any orchid. Picking out one to be a pod or seed parent and pollinating as usual. I don't think I understand that question.

It should do well for you as long as you can provide the conditions for it.

The culture is very simple. They are very temperate plants. For mine I have it in light a tad bit stronger than Phal light but only because it is under lights and the phals are by a window. I water when the sphag gets crunch if in another medium water or soak if in bark when it dries, good airflow, and you should be good to go!

thanks guys....

by the way what i mean by propagation is can you divide the plant just like in cattleyas? or if there are a lot growths in a pot, for example you have 8 or 9 growths can you divide them into 3?

Oh yeah they are dividable, but why would you want to?! The bigger the plant, the better the display!

You definitely could, but as Jenny has said, the bigger the plant the better! If you have one that established, it will also put out more spikes too...however its up to you

I just got some really cute bonsai pots that Kortney found for me. I re potted my Kinkosei and my Sedirea in two of them. They really are cute! Thank you so much Kortney for finding them!

I used the third one for my Angraecum.

April those look great. I like the pots too. The Sedirea is beautiful. Mine has no blooms but just put out a new leaf.
I have a 8 hour paid seminar early tomorrow and if I report to work after for another 5 hours my husband says I can buy more orchids with the extra money I made. Yay!!! I'm planning to stop by Japan Town on Thursday to see what I can pick up. I hate work but for more orchids, I'll do it!!!

Awesome!! Extra work=extra $$$=more orchids!!!!!!

My other Sedirea is at work and I have all my plants under a light on a timer, they get about 9 hrs of light, in addition to the fluorescent light while I am there! They are also next to a fountain. They must like the light, cause my Fu Ran is putting out a nice fat root and my Den is growing like crazy!!

I will try and post a pic later in the week!

April, I think that might be my problem. The room I have my orchids in is not bright enough and only has a north facing window. I might have to move them again.

I place all my Catts. and Dens. outside over the weekend so they should be getting plenty of light now.

April -- I like those pots! Kortney found nice ones. I wish I can find pots like those around here. Do they have feet? I can't tell from the pics.

Cindy -- You're too funny (working just for more orchids..LOL). Since I won a nice amount at Reno, I'm thinking of going to the closest Indian casino...

Good luck with your visit with J-town. I hope they have new inventory of Neos.

Thanks. Yup, here I am at work after only 2 hours of sleep. Good thing is the seminar finished early and I'm working a full 8 hrs. here at work. That equals to 16 hrs. total which equals to more neos!!! Yippy!!!

Will post pics. if I find any to buy tomorrow. I'm hoping to squeeze in a stop to Japan Town after my doctor's appointment and work. Yay!!!

Arlene-the pots do not have feet but they are so cute. I am very happy with them.
Any ideas on what you are going to get with your winnings??

Cindy-I think working that hard should get you several Neo's!! I am sure that Arlene is still the one with the most Neo's!

I do want to save up for an Ogonmaru it has yellow-orange flowers and a great scent! I will also have to get a fancy pot for it too! I may have to settle for one growth!!

Oooh...yellow-orange sounds yummy. I think I saw a picture of it on the NWO site. Is that the one? I'll go check it out now and drool.

Oh well...I still think those pots are cute, April.

I'm still shopping and will let you know what I end up ordering.

I've had my Ogonmaru for almost a year and have yet to make it bloom. I hope within the next few months. That goes for my Benisuzume and Shu Ten Nou, too.

Oh you have an Ogonmaru? Did you get one growth or more? Where did you get it?

I really think that is the one I want, I just love the color!

I posted the new Neos on a separate thread. So excited I got more. I looked at the Ogonmaru and it's really nice. I want one too one of these days.

i purchased a neo yesterday from a nursery in manila... it has 4 growths , but it is a little pricey, no flower for abot $25 US. it is on a spiral wire cone and the roots are dangling, no medium at all...

what i did is i put some sphags on the cone, i do not know if what i did is fine...

$25 US is pretty cheap for 4 growths. As for the sphag, that's probably a good idea that you put some on the roots, otherwise, you might have to mist pretty frequently.

April -- I have one growth Ogonmaru and hope it blooms soon!

ryanjoe -- There's a nursery in Manila? Whereabouts? I just might visit that nursery next time I visit relatives.

Since it's humid there, don't put a lot of sphag moss. (personally, I wouldn't if I live there.)

Yah, I want to know where in Manila too. I found one on line but you need to buy at least $500 to get free papers for export. Although it was not in Manila.

I've noticed Vandas grown in the Philippines with no medium and usually in the spiral wire cones. Maybe the Neo. should be grown that way too Ryan but not as much light.

Here are a couple pictures of my Kikotome with the buds open. The first was taken 07/29/08 and the second 08/03/08...

Much darker in the most recent one...and they smell great!

This thread has become epic. Over 9 pages of posts! I haven't kept up with it recently, but it looks like people are still going crazy over these little guys. And for good reason!
I have a question about Neo blooming. I've had one (it's unnamed) for over a year now, but all it has done is put on more growth and lots of roots. This thing probably has over 20 growths. It won't bloom for me though! It is potted traditionally, though the pot is more of a tall, skinny bonsai pot, and gets lots of sunshine (even got just a tad sunburned). It keeps putting out these little growths from in between leaves that look like they will develop into spikes, but they always seem to get stunted. They don't dry out and shrivel up or anything, they just seem to be dormant.
Anybody have any ideas what my problem might be?

Arika~ It's getting too much sunlight. Move it to a more shaded area. This might promote spiking. Also I have to ask, is the base of the plant darker, almost blackened? If it is, this is an indicator of inking and getting too much sun.

Therese -- Purty...purty...purty...yellow Neo flowers!

By the way, I got my Yubae from NWO this afternoon and it's in spike! I hope the spike won't get stunted or anything. (fingers crossed) I want to see the blooms!

Arika, the grower I got mine from said phal conditions would be fine for it. Mine bloomed for me under the same lights I had my phals under, however one of my phals developed a red tinge to the edges and undersides of the leaves so I would say phal type light or slightly more light than a phal but not by much. Mine however does have another start of a spike that was there when I got it on Mother's day and it hasn't done anything yet. Can you post a picture of it here???

Thanks articuno for your first post about the care of the Neofinetia Falcatas. It's very thorough and complete.. Good job!

As I keep looking at the pictures of them. I swear I had one before with multiple growths. But I think it was some sort of vanda. I'm confused some what because they look like vandas.. But smaller. And they do smell like candy. I lost the one i had when I moved. It remained outside unfortunately and it died.. I had gotten mine years ago from Hawaii.. But not sure of the plants name. I'll have to check my history of purchases to see if i can find it..

Anyways.. great job on all the info for Neofinetia Falcatas.. and the pics!

Agreed! I am patiently waiting! By the way, I went to Japan Town and got 3 new ones LOL...Suikaden w/ 3 growths, Himesekai w/ 1 growth, and a standard Neo with 9-10 growths. I always wanted a large standard one and I couldn't resist at only $30. Its huge! I'll post pictures in a bit.

I have a Suikaden with three growths that I got from Japan Town last November. It was only one growth then, but has pushed two new ones with the third leaf on each finishing now.

This little bean leaf seems to grow quickly.

Oohh! Good to know! I usually try to get one with at least 3 growths minimum, but I figured I'd get the Himesekai anyways. Dr. Lehr sells the 1 growth ones for $60, so I saved about $20 + shipping on that one. Hopefully it grows fast...couldn't pass it up too since its about an inch across and sooo tiny and cute!

Thanks guys. I didn't know that it was getting too much sun! It adjusted to the higher amounts quite well. I don't think it has any black at the base, but I'll check later today. And I'll post a pic later today too.

Alright, here are some pics of my neo (which won't bloom!). I did notice darkness at the base of some of the larger growths. The close up shows some of the dark area and also some of the little stunted spikes. I should also note that it is still happily putting out new growths. I'm moving it down to the bottom shelf, where I have happy phals, seedlings, and other chids that like lower light levels. We'll see if that helps!

Therese -- I can hardly wait to see pics of your new Neos.

ryanjoe -- Great roots! How many growths is that Neo?

snowball -- Your Neo looks healthy and great! I don't see that dark/black inking at the base, however. Maybe it just needs repotting?

Love the pot and the little pagoda decor. Is that little pagoda a moisture sensor?

Nope, or at least I don't think so. It's on a metal pin, came with the dead bonsai tree that came in the pot. Hehehe, yes I bought a dead bonsai for the pot! It was $1. Cheaper than buying a pot on its own.

Therese, those look great!! I love the pots, so cute. Are you going to put the new ones in the pots?

Great choices! What is the little one? Almost looks like my Tamakongo.
