As a matter of fact, I'll be taking a trip J-town this Saturday. I told my husband that I'm looking for pots and asked him if he wanted to come along and make a day in S.F. He said "ok". Me bad. Hehehe...

Having some unexpected extra cash come in recently has made me itch for more Neos...mini orchids, in general. LOL

Arlene, when you go can you see what varieties they have still? I want to go there soon and want to know how many plants I can afford.

I'll be in the delta boating and fishing. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some large nice twisty drift wood to put in the g/h. I plan to mount several orchids on it. Do you want one? I'll see what I can find. I don't think it's illegal to collect them. Hope not anyway.

Cindy,

Ok. I'll take note on what they have.

Sure. I prefer a small drift wood though, maybe up to 1 foot long. It's not illegal to pick up drift wood from the shore.

Arlene & Solay, I was at J-town recently and they didn't have very many selections left in terms of Neos. That could be different now that Satomi is back though. If I remember correctly, they had a striped version, a Sekai, and a couple others. They mainly had the mono's left in stock.

Here are the Neos from Satomi.

#1 - group pic (2 Rainbow-rounded; Rainbow-mutation; Nishidemiyako)
#2 - close-up of the Rainbow-mutation (bottom petal is half pink, half white)

Too bad, the flowers are at its end. Oh, I forgot that Satomi was auctioning off a set of two of the rounded Rainbow. After opening the box and unwrapping each Neo, I wondered why there were two of the same type. LOL

Cindy and Arlene- you guys are bad
If they have the Seikai one of you needs to get it! I got my Oonami Seikai and it has a beautiful shape!

I wish I lived where there were Neos to go look at and pick up and BUY! Though I would really be in trouble if there was!!!

Three of my Neo's arrived today, they look great! Two with spikes and one with new growth.

I will post pics later.

We were posting at the same time!!

Those are beautiful!! I really like that mutated one. I almost bid on it! That Nishidemiyako is cool, now that is the one that can mutate into something else?

My box from Satomi did not arrive today! The silly Post Office!! It should have been here! I HOPE it will be here on Saturday and they are OK!

I am going to get some more clay pots from her so all my Honored Fukuran have a special pot.

Arlene those look great! Lucky you. I'm going to tell my husband you got four more. Hee! Hee! Hee! I'll get you a footer! Maybe two if I see them.

April I work for the Postal Service so I know what you mean. I shouldn't say that cause we need the business. Job security and all. Still they can be very unreliable at times. Working for the union, I help lots of postal workers who should have been canned dozens of times over. If I could only tell you the things workers get away with at the post office. Being federal and union, almost impossible to get fired.

Anyhow, hope you get it on Saturday. I'm sure they'll be fine.

April -- I did bid on the Sekai and lost. So if they have it at Japantown and the price is within my current budget, I just might pick one up.

Yes. The Nishidemiyako can mutate to an inner variegation or to straighter/standing leaves.

They should be fine. Just give them a good drink this Saturday.

Cindy -- Shhhh. My husband might hear you. He worked from home today when I got my new Neos. Fortunately, he was napping when I brought the box in, unwrapped the Neos, and placed them among the others.

Here are my new babies!

The group shot
Oonami Seikai with a spike starting
Suikaden with a spike starting
Hisui with new growth

My Suikaden was potted in the black clay pot with gold feet, it really looks nice.

I will be getting two clay pots from Satomi with my Den's on Sat(?) and I will put my Shutennou and the Furan in those and use the bigger pots for my Den's.

After the Tamakongo arrives next week I am thinking I will try to take a nice picture for the July competition.

April,

They all look healthy. That Suikaden looks very nice in that black/gold Neo pot.

I plan on doing some repotting of Neos this Sunday or next Sunday. I hope I can do the sphag mound as good as you.

Those look great too. I think your gold and black pots looks almost if not exactly like mine. Hope you get your plants on Saturday. I'll be looking for your photo entry. Good Luck.

Jay PM me about the Cyms. I sent out for him on Monday and he hasn't received them yet either. Darn post office!!! He's waiting like you for Saturday. LOL!!!

April - I have a 'Suikaden' that is just throwing new growths and leaves, but now blooms. Please post a picture of the spike forming so I can see what I have to look forward to. Mine is about the same size as yours. (main growth 10 leaves, both smaller growths 3 leaves).

Can't wait to see the flowers. I can't find a good picture of the Suikaden flower.

Hi! I just thought I would post a picture of my Neo. falcata 'Issuhime'- It's a mini. I love it! I keep looking to see if it's getting a spike also. None yet. I believe that it's white. I got it quite a while ago, but I got it at the same time as my Neo falcata 'Syojou'. Since Syojou was in bloom, and purple, I was so excited that I forgot what it said about the color of my mini.-

Jay -- Could yours be a medium to large seedling Neo?

Patti -- I have an Issuhime, too! Aren't they cute and adorable! I've been checking mine everyday and hoping I'll see a spike, too. LOL

Did you get yours from NWO?

Arlene - here is a picture of my Neofinetia falcata 'Suikaden'. The picture is a few months old, I will update tomorrow when I can get a chance. In the picture you can see the main growth as 10 leaves (now has 11), and the two new growths on either side with the new leaves (both have 3 leaves now). I got it in November from J-town with a Shutennou that has done about the same, but neither even thinking of flowering. The Shutennou has 5 fans of varying sizes.

Pict 1 - 'Suikaden'
Pict 2 - 'Shutennou'

I have them under pretty bright light (3000fc range), great breeze, humidity around 50%. Not sure what else to try.

Jay,

Maybe both will bloom later this summer or fall? My Shutennou isn't showing any signs of flower spikes...just new leaves, too. On the other hand, my Suikaden has a new growth between the two bottom leaves. It could be a spike. I won't know for a while though and will keep you posted.

Next thing to try... patience.

By the way, my Shutennou is up in the orchid room, which gets up to 88F during the day and morning sun (bright light the rest of the day). The Suikaden is downstairs in the main dining room, which gets up to 80F and morning, then late afternoon sun. Could be the temp that makes the difference??

Jay

look at the pic of my Suikaden and down three leaves on the right and you will see a little claw like thing. That is the spike. The pics I have seen of the flower is green tips but white middle. Can't wait!!

Your looks to be about the same size as mine. I would think it would be blooming soon.

I wonder about my Kutsuwamushi, as it is pretty good size, why there is no spike yet, could be cause it has only one growth? Your Suikaden has several growths so it should be spiking soon!

Patti
I love your Issuhime! It is really small! Will it stay small? I may have to get that one!!!!

April,

The Issuhime will stay small. That's the mature size.

Get one...get one.

By the way, that looks like new growth on Jay's Suikaden. I don't see any dull tips emerging.

Arlene, Do you know if it's white? I just love the little guy! Yes, I got Issuhime and Syojou from NWO. My Neo. x self I got from Hausermans. I can't wait for it to bloom.

I'm wondering if the bloom on Issuhime is as tiny as the rest of the plant!?

Kortney, since it's so tiny, it would be easy to sneak into a collection!

Patti,

I don't know if it's white or with some color. I bought it because it was small and cute.

I think the blooms would be small, in relation to the plant size. I can hardly wait for my (or your) Issuhime to bloom!

Well, I guess that means I might just have to buy one in bloom this year so I can assure that I get to see Neo blooms.

The 'Suikaden' only had one growth when I bought in November from J-Town. I am very happy with it since it has 2 new growths and keeps putting out leaves.

My 'Shutennou' has developed a lot of red pigmentation on the leaves and base. I think this is due to high lighting. It is growing new leaves as well, but no new growths.

I know. . . Patience.

Smile New Den moniliforme

Well, my Dens from Satomi finally made it! They were extremely dry when I unpacked them. I soaked them for a while to make sure that they got rehydrated.

One of the Sekkoku had some broken canes and sadly the flowers were almost faded. I repotted into the larger Neo pots so now all three of my moniliforme's are in the larger Neo pots in a traditional mound.

I put them in the South window with the others and I think they will be fine.

They are very different from my Aobabue.

I also bought an Asocfinetia Cherry Blossom from another seller on ebay. I think someone on here has that one. I don't remember who. I will be excited to see it bloom with the red flowers! The one I got is small so probably no blooms this year. I will post pics when it arrives next week.

Here are pics of the moniliforme

That's awesome! Sorry to hear about the broken canes though...they are a bit delicate. What other dens did you get?

Yay, April! They finally arrived. Sorry to hear about the broken cane. It'll be fine.

I almost bought an Den. moniliforme in Japantown yesterday. the one I really like costs $50. I didn't have that much money on hand. So I settled for just the Neo. 'Kujakumaru', $15. Cute little thing. I'll post a pic later.

Which den are you looking at getting? Also, did they have any new plants in?

butt0n,

I can't remember the name. I just remember it being small, about 2" tall, rounded green leaves with yellow streaks; 6-7 growths. I wish I wrote down the name, but was in a little hurry.

Katsura didn't have that many Neos. All I saw were 2 Hisui, 1 Gojofukurin, 1 Sekai and 1 Kujakumaru. I almost bought the Sekai. But it was $50 for 1 growth. I decided to save up and buy a multi-growth later. Oh, there were two other Den. moniliformes and one Sedirea japonica 'Nagoran'.

I wish I had someplace like that to go to. Only 15.00 for a Neo!! Send me one!!! LOL! Can't wait to see the pics.

My Den moniliforme Sekkoku that has a flower on it smells great!! Very strong sweet smell, kind of like candy.

I have two more to get next week, the Tamakongo and the Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom.

I am trying to make room for them!

Ok. Here's the Neo. falcata 'Kujakumaru' I picked up last Saturday at Japantown, San Francisco.

The cute little thing is in a 2" net pot and is blooming size.

That is soooo cute! If it is blooming size it must be going to stay miniature like the Issuhime.
What a deal for only 15.00!

How can any of us keep up with you if you keep getting more! LOL, I am going to have to buy two to every one of yours!!!

I am looking on the NWO website and thinking......I really want one of those tiger leaf ones!

I will send an email to Satomi and see what she has, if any to sell and the price.

Ok, April. I'll slow down so you can catch up. LOL

I think, my next Neo will be the Sekai and an inner variegated one. Since getting the Neo booklet from Satomi, I have had my eye on a few, supposed high-class types. I'm curious about the prices for those.

April the new plants look good. I guess better late than never. I can't keep up with you and Arlene with the Neos.
Arlene the tiny Neo. is just too cute. When I get back to Japan Town, I'm going to get one too. I've been wanting a mini one.
By the way, my Neo. has another tiny growth coming in under the first leaf. So now I don't know which of the two is a spike or maybe neither of them are. I can't take a picture of it yet. It is way to tiny and deep inside the leaf. Hoping at least one of them is a spike.

Wouldn't it be great if they were BOTH spikes????? That is so cool, can't wait until you can get a pic for us to see.

Arlene

I sent Satomi an email to see what she has, I am waiting......
I have also looked of some of those high class ones We will see if she has any and most importantly the price!

I would really like to get one with more than 3 growths. So might have to save up!

I don't think you can slow down so I guess I will just have to speed up

OK, I am bad

Satomi sent me an email back and yes, she does have some Neo's for sale!!!

I am getting 2 (Arlene, this is to keep up with you ) :

....Kujakumaru which is small with 1 growth and the Kinrokaku, which is a tiger one with nice yellow leaves and is BIG, 6-7 growths! Of course I have to get some more pots for them!

I have had to move my other orchids to the quilt room to make room for all my Neo's!
I am getting a Vanda basket to hang up my Mokara to give me a little more room!

Dare I say it....."I'm done"

Anyway, I won't believe it till I see it. Proof is in the credit card bills! You don't look done! Hee! Hee!

April that's so funny because that reminds me of when my husband got into a verbal altercation with a guy at Yosemite (the guy was being a jerk pushing little kids out of his way to get through a souvenir shop). To make a long story short, the guy says to my husband, "I think your done!" The my husband replied, "I don't feel done." while poking himself in the arm for doneness! Ha! Ha! Ha! It wasn't funny then, but it is now.

April -- I can hardly believe you actually bought 2 more. Did you buy a Kujakumaru, too?! LOL It'll be your turn to post pics when you get them.

Would you believe I made a Neo. falcata wish list last night? Well, I did, by using the Neo booklet as reference to which ones I want. I put the list on my cell phone, so I have it with me. Ya just never know... LOL

Cindy -- What your husband did (i.e. poking himself on the arm) was funny! LOL

By the way, the only bud (that survived during the heat wave and broken a/c two weeks ago) bloomed the other day. Either the light is playing with my sight or I can see a tinged of green at the tips of the petals. There's definitely some hint of green on the spur. I'll try my best to get a shot of the bloom and its colors, or lack thereof. If I'm successful, I'll post the pic. If not, then there will be no pic.

Arlene,
Which Neo bloomed? If it is tinged with green is it a Suikaden?

Yes I did get a Kujakumaru. I asked if it was a miniature and she told me that it has short thick leaves and long thin leaves on the same plant! How cool is that!

Which plants are on your wish list? Is it a LOONGGGG list

I am excited to get the Kinrokaku as it has a lot of growths and is a big plant! I am sure that with the yellow leaves that it will look very impressive.

My stuff will be mailed in the AM, so hopefully I will have it on Friday or Saturday.

Cindy
I think what your husband did was funny! LOL! I am paying cash so my credit card bills are not too bad! I REALLY do not have any more room in the house for anymore orchids!

Pics this weekend hopefully!

Ahhh! I am way behind all of you with my one neo, lol! If the spurs stay pink I will go back to Hoosier orchids and pick up another one in bloom that is white. Could light levels cause the flowers or spurs to be pink like the morphing thing or is it simply a genetic thing?

I only thought the light levels effected the leaves not the blooms.

Hey get buying!!! You can email Satomi to see what she has! If you don't have her email I will send it to you when I get home today.

You don't sound done!!! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I won't be around Japan Town for a while. I only get that way when I take my mother for her doctor's appointments. I'll see if I can get there sooner though.

I'll take a look at e-bay. Just to look.

Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom

Here is one of my new plants. Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom, I found a cute little bonsai pot that I had and I think it looks great in it.

Out of the box
repotted in the bonsai pot

Okay I think I did this right.

Since there is a boom in interest and everyone wanting Neos, I made a Neo Growers group. I think... (please don't laugh, okay laugh. ) It's just to see how many Neos and hybrid growers there are.

It's under my user ID if you click on it, then you can see the memberships on the right hand side.

This is one exspensive neo!

I am bidding on some satomi's plants finally. Would it be better to email her or to bid? Well I can't take back my bids but is there a price difference if you don't have to battle someone in the bidding stage? lol, I probably sound silly. I'm bidding on fujihime and a sederia japonica mini.

I just remebered something! When I was a little girl my grandma had foreign exchange students and my favorite one was from Japan. Her name was Akiko.

Jenny, I'm not sure how that works. Anyone tried it yet?

Patti, great picture and congrats.!

Kortney, LOL!!! I bidded on the mini Sederia too. I won't bid on it again. I have one already. Although not a mini. I use my husband's e-bay account so it won't show solay.

OK, here is a picture of the newest growth coming in on my Neo. Can you see it? Pretty tiny yet. The growths are between the 1rst and 2nd leaves. Yay!!!

Thanks April. That was what I'm hoping for.

Oh, and it's a Gojofukurin. Think it's just the white blooms.

April -- That Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom looks really healthy. Love the pot! Oh, nice job on the sphag mound. I dub you the sphag mound expert.

Jenny -- I'll check out the new Neo group thread. See you there.

Patti -- Beautiful macro shot! Love macro shots, too.

Kortney -- Yikes! One growth for $1,200!!!! I'd like one, but that's not in the budget. Anyway, I could buy a decent greenhouse for that much.

Cindy -- Yeah, the Gojofukurin produces white blooms. Anyway, looking at the pic, I can't really see it. Will you post another one next week?

I can see it! It's the little dark green point from the top of the bottom leaf. I couldn't see it until I clicked on it to enlarge the picture. Excitement builds!

Solay, After seeing such a tiny growth I have to go examine mine. There might be something hidden between the leaves that I have missed--after all, I usually mist with worm tea every morning and water on the run. I haven't really taken time to examine it closely. How many fans does it have to have before they consider it blooming-size

Pat, I've seen Neos blooming on just on fan. I guess it depends on the size of the fan. Mine has just one fan with 2 very small growths on each side. So I don't think it needs to have several growths. Take a close look. I had to pull the leaf down to really see it.

Patti it is pretty small still. I'll repost a better pic. if it grows. Hee! Hee!

I tell you, Solay. all this talk of spiking Neos has got me a little crazy I took my plant and held it up to the light to see if I was missing anything. I have two good size fans , a big fat white root between them, and a little round dark shadow-thing inside one of the leaves. I certainly can't tell if it is going to be a new growth or a spike and I really don't care As long as the plant is happy, I am happy As long as there is some kind of growth, we are all in good shape

BTW, congratulations on your new growth!! Way to go...

Yup, that sounds like something is coming up. You'll find out what it is eventually. The waiting is torture though. Ha! Ha!

Aww Dang Solay! That's why I had to rebid.... jk it's ok. I'm trying to get that book too and two neos. I have been ebay hunting today so far I won a scarf and a hello kitty purse.

I see it!!!!! I bet it will grow like crazy. Mine seemed to grow the most right after watering day then when it get drier it would slow down until I watered it again. My only problem has been fungus gnats. I only see two or three a day but it still scares me.

Not me. I was the first bidder on the book and the mini sederia. I haven't bidded again since.

I'm having a real problem with gnats. I get about 10-15 per day and I stand there and try to kill them with my hands. Sometimes they fly into your nose. Hate that!!! I tried spraying them once or twice but that didn't work either. Maybe you have to keep spraying? I don't want to mess with any of the spikes right now so I won't spray until they bloom.

Oh sorry, lol! I want to treat everything all I have is safer's 3 in 1 and brookn's cinnamon recipe but I am nervous because I the neo is getting ready to bloom and I have 3 other that are in bloom too. I don't know if I should wait or go ahead and do it. I can't find Bayer 3 in 1.

I bought some Bayer but not sure which is which. I'll just use my trusty hands for now. Sometimes I just spray them with water and that keeps them prevents them from flying. Then that's when I smash them. Hee! Hee! Hee!
