Great choices! What is the little one? Almost looks like my Tamakongo.
The little one is a Himesekai. As for the pots, I'm probably going to put the larger ones I have in the larger pots, and smaller in the smaller pots LOL...makes sense...but what I'm trying to do is color coordinate as well. I don't want the pots to take away from the plant or flower color itself. I'm currently trying to find cream/tan pots for green colored Neos as well...I guess you can say I'm picky!

Oh, I picked up my brother yesterday from the airport. He's back from his trip from Japan and he gave me a book of what he thought was of Neos...very close, but no cigar! He picked one up for Japanese cyms which were interesting to me anyways since I don't know much about them. Very nice pictures

Button, I love the little one! It's so cute. Is it a bean-leaf? Like your pots too.

Yep, that one is a bean leaf for sure. The difference between a Himesekai and a regular Sekai is that the one I have has more curved leaves. I just didn't expect it to be that small, but we'll see how it grows in the coming months.

Therese, I love the tiny bean leaf one too. SOOO CUTE!!! I saw one in Japan Town but opted to buy the green neo. instead. It'll be next on my list though.
Love them pots. Blue is pretty. I was in a Japanese dollar store yesterday and saw some cute little bowls. I think if I can drill holes on the bottom of them, they'd make cute pots. I'll give that a try one of these days.
As for the Cym. book, it's better than nothing. At least he brought something back. That's more than I can say for my cousin. He said he didn't get a chance to look for any Neos. and that he didn't know how to find a store. I guess I can't blame him. It's hard to get around in a foreign country if you don't speak the language. Good thing I have a Japan Town nearby.

Those Neos look healthy...nice green! Love the pots! How did I miss those when I was there a few weeks ago? Oh well...next time.

The pots actually came from a different store, not Katsura Garden. I went to Soko Hardware, across the street on the bottom floor. They have some bonsai supplies, but not much. Katsura Garden has more of the flatter type of pots for the trees...haven't had much luck for pots for Neos there.

Oh! I'll have to stop by Soko hardware next time. I hope I can find some cute Neo pots there.

I did pick up a set of pots with flat bottoms. With those, I'm thinking of placing the potted Neos inside.

I got a new noe today! It's a Neofinetia falcata [Ami Ami form] x Holcoglossum kimballiana. They havn't seen the flowers yet but expect they will be anywhere from a cream color to a light pink. I will post pics after I repot it!

Update on my Yubae & Suikaden

My Yubae's spike seems stuck and not growing.

The buds on my Suikaden blasted earlier this week. I was so looking forward to the white/green blooms.

While I was away from OrchidGeeks, my Asco. Twinkle bloomed for me. YEAH! Now if only my Asco Cherry Blossom and Neo falcata would catch on. I need to get some more of these darlings!!!

My Asco Twinkle started out white and then changed to a very pale peach color. Truthfully... I couldn't tell you if there was a scent. I'm lucky my daughter took the pic for me. It bloomed during a particularly hard week.

Therese -- I moved my Yubae to where it will get brighter light. (cross fingers) I hope the spike will grow this week.

Damien -- That looks nice and healthy. I've been eyeing the Ascofinetia Twinkle for a while, but need to hold back...must hold back.

Vivi~ I love that color on the blooms! I just might have to get me one

Arlene! Don't feel bad! My Gekkeikan blasted as well! It has to be the air I tell ya! I don't know what happened, I think it was when I moved it to a "shadier" place and forgot to move it back. One of the Oops factor moments.

Damien~ Those look great and I can't tell from the pic, but the buds look gigantic on that plant. Has to be an optical illusion. Love it.

Being in Florida you should be fine outdoors. Do have it in a more shaded area since the sun is far brighter down there than it is up here. It still has to be treated with Phal like conditions. (Well a little brighter anyways )

It should do good for you.

I hope this is not too much off topic. It's about a neo-hybrid so maybe I'm in the right area of the forum Anyway, I have a Darwinara that I want to mount--but I've not seen any posts about this orchid being mounted... Can I do it? It is part vanda and they love basket culture...Maybe I should just put it in a basket? I've seen quite a few neos that have been mounted...Do you think this will work? Anybody with a Darwinara, how do you grow it?

I don't see why it couldn't be mounted. There are some Neos that are mounted. As long as you can provide the culture that the roots need, there shouldn't be any issues.

Actually, I think it would be pretty. Is it 'Blue Charm' we're talking about Patlee?

That would be nice...I am sure you will have to be "on top of them" more often.

Are Neo fast growers?

For the most part, yes. There are some that will grow very rapid and can double and even triple in size within a year. Then there are some varigated kinds that can take years just to make one single growth. Try staring at those for days on end, LOL

Pat,

Yes, you can mount a Darwinara. It's much like a Neo/Vanda.

Yes. Me too.. I think Damien was watching the Olympics while taking snap shots by his sliding glass door.. LOL

Btw, I just decided to replant my neo with moss.. And took it out of the coconut fiber. There apparently were two plants and they separated in the transplanting.. Now I have two Neo's.. LOL Good thing I had another pot..

LOL, I was watching the Olympics...

Thanks for the compliments...although these spikes were here when they arrived.

I do find a bit of fragrance ...bu very faint...maybe it is because they opened recently..

Damien, congrats on your first neo. I bought one in bloom and was so eager to smell it. Mine was not as fragrant as expected either. I have to get very close to the flower to smell it. Must be some are more fragrant than others. They are cute though.

Oonami Seikai

My Oonami Seikai bloomed! It looks great and the smell.....yummy! (even my husband likes it)

I am very happy with it.

My Suikaden's spike it getting bigger! It shouldn't be too much longer, I am sure that the hot weather we had helped it along.

I love orchids!

April, that spike looks so healthy. Bet it's going to put out a great show. Nice growing.

Mine all have no flowers at the moment. So I'm just enjoying the foliage for now.

I know a couple of you guys mentioned having the "cherry blossom" to. Has anyone gotten it to bloom? The one I got from Oakhill is definately mature enough to. Just wondering when I can expect some showy flowers.. hehe

Nope no blooms on this one for me. I just had to repot mine as it was not liking the humidity and my sphag. I have gone with, for now, Schultz with a top dressing of sphag, kinda mounded. When I get some long fiber good quality sphag I will try again.

I'm thinking perhaps this may be a tough one to get to bloom.. And worth while to have pics of when it does indeed bloom.. LOL I for one, am really looking forward to seeing it ..

On the next watering day, (which is coming up in a few) I plan on feeding it with some bloom boost. According to what I read on OakHill.. The blooming season is supposed to be Summer till Fall.. So imma try and get crackin on this! lmao And see what I get this little baby to do.. (crosses fingers)

Whoa, is my Neo preggers!???

What do you guys think? If it is, I don't know how. My backyard used to be infested with bugs before, but with the new school construction I have in the back all I get is an invasion of dust! Plus, bloomed around the time T.S. Fay passed through and it was indoors for 2 days. SoOoOo, I don't know...maybe, hopefully, who knows!?

That is crazy isn't it? I never would have thought that a flower of mine would get pollinated. You guys maybe right about the mouth though. Now that you guys mentioned it, sometimes I forget to turn off my backyard light at night and that lures moths and other bugs over. Now guess where that light is...2-3 feet above my Neo! It makes sense now...thank you. I do have docile black ants that roam certain plants when they are about to flower...but I don't think I saw any on my Neo.

Wow...I can't believe it. So what now? Do I leave it alone? Imagine if it got crossed with something...I have a Den full of flowers. Is that possible with a Neo?

This is the Den I am talking about...I wonder if...

The other pic is the light I am talking about. The second shelf from the top is where the Neo is.

Damien -- If you want to have more Neos, I suggest sending that pod for flasking before it opens up.

Update for everyone...

That one spike on my Yubae dried up. However, it has a second spike coming in. I hope that one doesn't blast.

A few weeks ago, I bought a Rumrillara Margaret's Jewel (Ascofinetia Peaches x Rhynchostylis coelestis) for Hausermann's. Love the contrasting colors and there's a bit of that Neo fragrance. The buds just started opening up the other day, so haven't taken a pic, yet. In the meantime, here's a pic from Hausermann's...

Rumrilla Margaret's Jewels IN BUD: Orchids By Hausermann

The petals/sepals on mine are more of a yellow/green; lips are pink/peach.

I seen this one and I'm jealous that you got it! LOL I'll just have to drool at the pics of yours until I eventually get one.

Damien~ If it was crossed with a Den, what on earth would you name it? LOL!!! It would be so cool though.....

Neo pods ripen around 165 days, but can go a little earlier or later. Hope this helps.

Damien -- Yes, wait a little longer, but not too long. You'd rather have the seed pod open up at the flasking lab. Btw, I don't think you can cross a Den with a Neo. The two must have similar genetic make-up (i.e. within the same family).

Jenny -- I hope to get pics of my Rumrillara this weekend. If I do, I'll definitely post.
