Flower bud on Lc.?

I found this small growth on Lc.Netrasiri Waxy 'Jairug'.

It is coming off the lower part of the stem ( not from the bottom). It is pale green in colour and NOT hard to the touch.

Could it be a flower bud?

Thanks.

does not look like one. Difficult to tell as picture too small.
Have you seen the flower before?

If I'm not mistaken, if it was a flower bud it would come from the leaf joint, not the bottom.

What you have there is a new growth, which is what will hopefully flower when it matures.

Jay

I can't really tell what it is we're supposed to be looking at in the pic, but it doesn't matter anyway because Cattleya Alliance plants do not bloom from the base of a plant, they bloom from the apex (top) of the pseudobulb. If they growth you're talking about isnt' coming from the apex of the bulb, it's not a flower.

Thanks digitalgate and jay.

I think it is a new growth too now that it is off the hanging pot

kmarch: I am sorry I was not clear. The plant was hanging and I could not get a clear picture.

Now that it is down I took some pictures that show the new growth; even though I don't know how to describe where it is growing from!!. It is just sprouting from the middle of a cane.

I actually don't think it is a new growth. It looks like somethign I see on Catts occasionally in which one of the protective bracts takes on some chatacteristics of a leaf. In other words they're somwhere halfway between a bract and a leaf. I would not be suprised to see it continue to yellow and then fall off of dry up like a bract.

I notice that the part of the pseudobulb in the vicinity of this growth in question is bare, i.e. no bract. This would support my hypothesis that the growth is a mutated bract.
