Can you give us some more info on its growing habits? If its a nobile type or, needs a rest in autumn/winter, it may mean it wont grow all year round, so wont be so helpful at putting out new roots.

If its got no roots, you may want to keep it at its summer temps day and night, and give it good light sources, and light fertilizer, in the hope of tricking it into thinking its spring maybe so it will make new growth and roots.

i wouldn't advice that unless you were desperate, I'm sure someone here has a better idea.

But the problem is, I don't know, how to grow this plant.

A friend gave it to me. And he does not know how to grow it, too.

greets

I should point out that the temperature info system used on the internet orchid encyclopedia cited above is problematic. If you look at the key that explains the temperature ranges, you'll see a number of problems:

1) No symbol exists nor is a range given for orchids growing with night time temps between 60-68F. What's up with that? Are there no orchids that grow in this range?

2) An orchid which has a night time minimum of 60F is categorized as a cool growing orchid? I don't think so. That's right in the heart of the intermediate growing range.

3) No intermediate growing range is given (the range in which the vast majority of home grown orchids grow)

4) In general the ranges given are off.

Here are the traditionally accepted night time minimums for the temp categories:

Cold - 50F or below (10C or below) minimum temp
Cool - 50-55F (10-13C) minimum temp
Intermediate - 55-65F (13-18C) minimum temp
Warm - 65-70F (18-21C) minimum temp
Hot - above 70C (above 21C) minimum temp

So I'd keep looking for info on your Diplocalobium as I don't think the info on the internet orchid encyclopedia is reliable.

@kmarch
Thank you, for your words

Is it wrong, when I cultivate with temperatures from 68-75°F?

Now I am totally silly/confused.

In GermanY, there don't exist any advices for growing it.

Worldwide: 63 Sites, and not anyfo more in. Better said, nothing.

What I found is, that D. chrysotropis is very rare.

VERY RARE!

a few of you, so I think are professionals, aren't you? Do you get better Infos about this?

I dont wanna let it die, because my HEART hangs on that Plant, it gives me Memories ...

Hello there!

Does really nobody know, how to tell this D. chrysotropis how to build up roots?

I have mounted it on wood with moss, on that moss, I have tied it. every two days I give Water to the plant.

The wood with the plant is in a ca. 40cm glass bottle, to raise up the Humidity. In spite of that, the minibulbs are crinkly or sulcate, or wrinkled , or wrinkly. So many words for ONE opinion...

Hello drecksuck, I am sorry that you can't find the info you need. I checked the 'net for you and if you search for 'Diplocaulobium' you get a few useful hits.

I give below an URL that might be of some interest to you. Pages 165,166 and 167 has growing info for that genera. I hope you can find some relevant data to suit your species.

Good luck.

Hi, here is my two cents input. Warm = 68`F to 75`F night average. This equates to 20'C to 25'C. This information from Jay's Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia on the culture of your plant.

Yeah the temp ranges on Jay's are pretty messed up though. I wouldn't use them. A orchid that requires a minimum winter nighttime temp of 75F, that's a hot growing orchid, no doubt. Jay's IOSPE isn't intended (by his own admission) to be an authoritative source.

As I previously posted, the commonly accepted tamp ranges are:

Cold - 50F or below (10C or below) minimum temp
Cool - 50-55F (10-13C) minimum temp
Intermediate - 55-65F (13-18C) minimum temp
Warm - 65-70F (18-21C) minimum temp
Hot - above 70C (above 21C) minimum temp

These are the ranges I see in most orchid growing books and with minor variations are the ones commonly accepted by authors and experts.
