| I'd say you have a good chance that you will get a subspike or even another new spike if the plant is happy. I took a healthy phal to work a little over a year ago. It hated the environment there and lost a full spike of flowers in a week. The plant really wanted to bloom even though I was not giving it the environment it wanted initially. I cut the spike off and it immediately sent out another. |

| Thanks mayres. These are quite healthy looking Phals. One spiked right with a nother spike in bloom Did you mean that I cut the broken spike(s) off? I am sorry I did not get it

| If you have healthy nodes left on the spike I'd say you have a good chance of getting more spikes, possibly even sometime yet this season.

| Sometimes when a spike is done flowering, if you cut it just below the last flower, it will send a new shoot off the spike and will flower again. I would leave it on and see what it does. Most of mine have flowered a second time when I have cut them |

| I'm personally not all that excited about the aesthetics of subspikes - If you don't remove the broken spikes I'm guessing they will subspike for you. If you cut them completely off you may or may not get another total spike soon - it is somewhat of a gamble - but this would be MY choice. Of course the choice is yours. Let us know how it goes down the road. |

| I have done the same you have done in August. I have a what I think is called a sub spike growing just before the damaged broken bit off a nodule and...two flowers are about to open! it recovered from mummy's mistake! So dont panic! Phals are actually, well mine for sure is quite hardy to rough hands! Just wait and see what happens! It might truely suprise you! xxxxxx

| Thanks MissConnie. Mine are identical, breaks i.e.. I see two nodes in your spike. I think mine have more than two. I will get a few shots of them shortly. I may keep them. Tobi: I am sure you view is better. But I have been starving for blooms

| I bought two noid phals at the Home Depot. From what I read, if the spike remains green after the last flower dies you should keep the spike "as is " on the plant. The other plant someone else cut down to two nodes. Both are showing spikes, one from the cut end, the other from a node two nodes down from the end of the spike. I figure I bought two of the same plants. These plants seem to want to bloom, no matter what. Do you all agree? |

| I've seen many spent noid phals in the various local stores that are subspiking on their own with no attention at all. That might even be a factor in why they ARE subspiking again - no attention at all - trying to survive? |
