Getting Den Phals to spike

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting Dendrobium Phal types to spike. I have a couple that have finnished growing their new canes and it has been just about a year since I bought them in bloom.

you might want to check the following.
1) light minimum 4 hours of 50% sunlight . Dont put it into
full sunlight.
2) Did you fertilize when it is growing actively?
3) Has it grown its own roots?
4) Is the cane about 2cm in diameter?
if you have. It is a just a matter of time. My Dendro. bloom year round with
just 2 weeks rest.

I wish that I could figure that one out myself. I have about 10 of them and
the older ones produce spikes 2-3 times a year and flower. I've got some
that I've had for 2-3 years, growing new canes every year, look great and
have never thrown up a spike. They are all treated equally so I'm assuming
it's an environmental issue. Could be the need to adjust for a while before
they spike.

I think I have seen some response to giving them a longer dry period between waterings. Maybe 5 days to a week dry and then water. I note that I have put a number into a separate part of my greenhouse to keep away from my every other day watering because they have stopped growing, and shortly there after, I have to bring them back because they are putting out spikes. Don't know if this is cause and effect or just coincidence. Good luck.

Cynthia: What are typical temperatures in your greenhouse? Apart from the mounts and the baskets, I generally wouldn't think to water every other day, but in winter my plants have to be pretty cool. -- Bill

My greenhouse goes to about 75F day in cooler weather, and 85F day during summer. Night time lows are about 75F summer, and I have my thermostat set at about 62F for fall, winter & spring. The Phal type Dens hang all the time, so they get the 62 or 63F winter nights, but the floor can get pretty cool. You'd have to see all my Dens to know why I have to water so often during their growth time. The pots are down right minuscule. These plants literally suck the pot dry in 2 days, and my culture calls for 'wet while growing'. So every 2 days is not really too much water.
