Shoot or Spike?

I hope this is not another stupid question. I found this new growth on Cattleya (Cherry Sung X Netrasiri Beauty). Could this be a flower?

I am under the impression that flowers come off the axils in Cattleyas.

This one is a bit different from other cattleya growths I have: this is growing 'like' a spike though it is coming from the base.

Its a spike cat buds come from the leaves good news is thats where the next buds will be!

If that is a Catt, then that is a new growth, not a flower spike.

It's not a flower spike, it's a growth. Cattleyas do not spike from the base of the plant. But, don't be dissapointed. Catts. bloom from the top of new growths, so you may yet fave flowers from this growth but you'll have to wait a bit.

Definitely, it's a new growth.

It's new growth pikevi. The flower will come from this new growth. It'll be awhile so be patient.

I am glad that it is growing. These were all bougght , 'as is'; were not in great shape at that time.

Definitely a new growth. This ps.bulb will potentially become the larger of all it's predecessors and so on.
