High Pressure Sodium vapour lamp

Is anyone here using this?

I like to ask a few thing.
1) how much heat does this increase in your green house?
2) how much was the price different in your area?
my area the price difference a T5 and HPS is about $10

I am sick of using PL tube as i have to change in 1 or 2 months.
any experience shared would be nice.

I have a MH/HPS convertible system. It does put out a lot of heat. Basically in the summer, I have too crank up the AC in my grow room to counter it, and in the winter I keep the heat turned down low, or turned off as the light will pretty much heat up the whole room. Also, HPS put out an intense yellow (looks yellow to humans) light. It gets annoying if it's in a room that is more than just a plant room. You can get the bulbs for pretty cheap ($15-$35) if you stay away from the "plant" lights. A good ballast and reflector will cost $250 - $400, and I would highly recommend that you get a good one. I've seen some pretty shabby looking rigs in the $100 dollar range on the web, but your taking a big risk.

I live in Philadelphia- we have hot, humid summers (averages 85-95 F, 50-75% humidity) and cold, dry winters (25-40 F, 10-30% humidity). I have a really good heat/ac system that lets me maintain 65-68 F year round. I'm using a 400 watt bulb, as well as several cfls, 23-85 watts.

thanks, thinking of 100W HPS combining with 100w MH. That i hope should be
generate too much heat for the plant.

nah, my friend who use 150Watt MH end up selling his set as it generated too
much heat. The growing area temperature is too hot. Think i sticking with
T5. Then again...

There are so many things that can grow and thrive under HIDs, in my opinion that outweighs the heat issue.

I've used a 400w mh for about a year. Don't have a heat issue in WA, and during the summer I only had it come on for 1-2 hours in the morning. It sure extends the "daytime" now that we are approaching our shortest days.

I guess it would help cure SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder) in those 'up North' places, eh?
