I think my orchid got a little cold and shivered !

The leaves on my orchid have this "accordian" effect on the new growths. It got cold here a couple of days ago in the house and now my plant looks crinkled in areas. Will the crinkles go away?

If you can tell us what kind of orchid that would help. In most of the thin leaf kinds that’s an indication of not watering enough. The wrinkles won’t go away but it wont keep the growth from growing and flowering. Pictures would also be helpful

Hhhmm sounds like something mine did, but mine was due to the leaf getting stuck and as it finally unstuck and came out it was folded like that

I have a couple of Oncidium hybrids that have this wrinkled leaf problem.

The main reason is lack of water intake. Keep in mind this could be from a couple of things.

One would be underwatering. Easy to fix.
Two would be overwatering. This would cause root rot so that the plant would be unable to take up enough water.
Three would be lack of humidity. If the humidity is too low this can also happen. To raise your humidity put them on a humidity tray.

One of my Onc. that have this wrinkled leaf also bloomed this year from the wrinkled section, so there is still hope for the growths.

The "accordian" pleating is caused by the plant being too dry when that part of the plant was growing. It has nothing to do with temperature. The pleats may eventually stretch out a bit but they will probably not completely unfold.

Here is a picture

Here is the pic of the leaves. I water every 5-7 days soaking the roots for 1 hour.

Yup, those accordian pleats are from dryness, if not beign watered tooo infrequently, perhaps then too low humidity.

I have a report that too much magnesium for Miltonias can do it too. This is something for the people who use Epsom salts to note.

Our tap water here is the pits. My plant is in spagh moss. I don't let it dry out too much, only when the top of the moss gets completely dry. This plant doesn't have really long roots, but I was told that if I watered it too much it would rot, that's why I only water it every 5 days or so. Now, could that be the reason why that spike hasn't budded and bloomed?

Watering on a fixed schedule is a recipe for disaster. Much better to read and follow the advice below. On the subject of blooming, it just may not be the season yet. When the new growth starts to show a bulb developing, for Oncidiums and Miltonias, look for spikes.
Skewer use for watering of orchids

Will definitely give this a try. I checked my plants this morning and they're a little dry. I just watered them 2 days ago. My apartment is dry. Gotta mist them too.
