| Den. Stardust 'Firebird' Hi everyone, I just purchased a Den. Stardust 'Firebird' at an auction. When they were auctioning it off they mentioned it was a Yamamoto nobile Dendrobium, but when i googled yamamoto dens this particular orchid did not appear. Now I'm questioning if it is a nobile. Can anyone help me identify what type of den this is exactly if not a nobile? here is a link to a picture http://www.sborchid.com/OrchidOfTheD...t-Firebird.htm Last edited by kmarch; 10-20-2007 at 08:57 PM. | I think your plant is definitely a nobile dendrobium even though it may not be a Yamomoto hybrid. In the picture of the plant in pot you can see the dried up flower stems along the nodes of the older cane which is a common characteristic of the nobile. The sample said the plant was temperate tolerant indicating that it might be the new breeding of nobiles that will bloom without the winter chilling down. |

| Your Den is a nobile-type (that's what theyre called, the name "nobile" refers to a particular species of Den) crossed with Den unicum, an unusual bright orange species. Since it does have the species Den nobile in its background I suppose you soulc stillcall it a nobile-type.

| That particular hybrid is 50% unicum, 25% moniliforme, 12.5% nobile, 6.25% heterocarpum, and 6.25% signatum. The experts here should be able to help you with what that means culture wise. Last edited by kmarch; 10-21-2007 at 08:08 PM. Reason: % correction |
