What do I do with yellowing leaves on Phals?

Hi - I've had one of my Phals for around 12 months and I see I have a new spike (I think a flowering one?). I have only had new leaves before and new roots growing. However, some of the old leaves look as it they're dying and yellowing. Should I remove these? Would appreciate any helpful advice.

That is normal for Phals. They will eventually wither enough to fall off on their own.

yes, as long as you also have new growth, you're fine. when leaves turn yellow and fall off *overnight* is when you have a problem.

I give them a very gentle tug every day until it just falls off in my hand, when it is good and ready.

In general, as a new aerial root appears in the axil of the lowest leaf, it yellows, withers, and falls off. I just leave the leaf until it disconnects of its own accord or with a slight tap of my finger. -- Bill
