| This annoys me greatly =/ I believe this to be the 2nd time its happened, which makes me wonder that this will be an ongoing problem, genetic and unfixable. Yes, these flowers have 'finished' opening, they've been like this for a week. More buds to come, on a very nice tall spike, plant is lovely and healthy....no fair! Any info would be great, maybe its just a phase? Cheers, Tom499 Last edited by tom499; 10-14-2007 at 06:53 AM. |

| Tom I think your phal has peloric mutation gene.. one of my dendrobium has it's petals not opening up like yours. It's genetic I would say.. maybe this kind of plant is valuable for those who cross between hybrids but.. for a lay person like I.. it's rather something dissapointing but I've learned to live with it.. |

| That would be a nice idea justloveorchids. Where are you from? If you go on edit profile, you can put on there where your from so everyone can see. You only need to put your country and state/region. I could only send it within UK, possibly Europe, as I would fear for its safety (and damage to my wallet |

| wow! Thats near perfect Well, if you tell me what you'd like to swap for it. I'll get you a full photo of the plant you can see exactly what It looks like. |

| Here are the photos. You can probably make out the algae on the inside of the pot. I've left this as the plant was in spike. The algae just washes out the pot when repotting, it does little apart from block out light to the roots. The plant will be repotted long before it causes a problem. Its pest free, Its been grown indoors since buying it. |

| i'm going to go with the mutation idea; i was in a local nursery today (buying more ant traps ) and they had just gotten a big shipment of 'chids, including a bunch of baldan's kaleidoscopes; one of them had flowers shaped like that.a couple pelorics: http://www.orchidexchange.com/Photos/web0907.htm

| Tom, I agree...a peloric. It's a beautiful phal, especially the color. Like Vivienne, I like some oddity and would keep it. But then everyone has his/her own preferences.

| Tom as most others have said it probably is peloric.........however I have a Phal Malibu Bistro that produced two spike this year, one was normal and the other had mutated blooms similar to yours. I also had a noid with peloric flowers that I was going to toss but the wife would not let me as she thought it was nice. |

| Tom, Vivienne, Orchids are so unusally beautiful, peloric or not. Doesn't detract from their beauty, just adds interest, in my opinion. Both are very pretty. |
