Could this be a spike?

I was inspecting my orchids as I did the massive repot this past Sunday and noticed this on one of my healthy orchids. Since I haven't seen a spike start yet, could this be a spike coming from my Phal. Texas Spots "Odom's". (Kevin, are you proud of me? All caps. )

It looks like a spike to me. I've had a few phals that have had spikes start out looking like that. It might grow slow due to the plant already having multiple spikes.

I am proud of you! Both because of the name and because of what looks to me to be a spike.

Cheers!

Oh boy. The other spikes have lost their flowers but are not drying up at all. I think I should remove these spikes and see what happens. Does anyone disagree?

I cut spikes once the flowers have fallen. As long as your careful with the cut wound it'l be fine (bit of cinnamon dabbed on with a brush).

Seems like an unusual location for the next spike to develop in relationship to the other one. Be sure and take another pic and share in a few weeks so we can see the development. Regardless of whether or not it is a new flower spike I would cut off your old spike this time of year - but of course this is optional. I have seen mature phals that people have left for years and they keep reblooming off of them in subspikes and subspikes of subspikes. If they stay green and rebloom it is just a matter of aesthetics - if you like a curling rambling spike or a fresh new one that is pristine and in some repects more showy. Enjoy either way! mike

Mike, I thought the same thing concerning the location of the spike. We'll see. I will most definitely keep everyone posted.
