New plants and experiment!

I bought some new orchids a few weeks ago. Here are the pics of Paphiopedilum and Pendrobium nobile.

Third pic shows my improvisation of a small greenhouse for keikies. That is a fishbowl. On the bottom I have puted a hydrotone, and a few peaces of charcoal. On the top I placed a moss in which I placed Dendrobium keikies, Cattleya with 2 bulbs but no roots, Paph without roots and other orchids that need more roots. I will be glad to hear your comments on this thing...

Having different genus plants in the same container does make me worry alittle.

Paphs will want to be kept damp, Cattleya must be allowed to dry out abit before the next watering.

You have alot of plants in a small container, This will cause the air to stale and possibly lead to fungi and other nastiness.

Pot them all seperately in moss, and use a 2 litre pop bottle, cut in half, as a cover over them. make a few holes for air movement, and these will help with humidity for smaller plants.

I have to agree with Tom. Because of the cultural requirements for watering
are different, keeping them together will cause problems.

You are going to run into a problem keeping the cultural need of all these plant at the same time. If it was up to me I would put each in its own pot. Zip lock Bags now come in large sizes and if you can put the pots in them they will give you the greenhouse effect you’re looking for

I agree with you! But didn't putted Catts in moss, I putted them on the top so that roots can dry. So far, there were no problems. I will leave rootless Catt as it is, and I'll remove Catt that have roots from the bowl as you told me.

Dends and Paphs do like wet moss, so I don't think that there will be problem keeping them together!

And also, there is no problem of stake air because the top of the bowl is opened and there is always a lot of air circulation inside!

you'd be surprised how quickly fungi grows in warm, wet, stale conditions. A hole in the top wont make a major difference, you need air being moved around with a fan over the top or something.

i really dont recommend potting any plants together, they will be fighting for water, nutrients and light.

Ok than... I will put a small cooler from the computer inside. And I didn't thought to keep them inside always. When they grow roots, I'll get them out of there and pot them as usual!
