| Maribyrnong Orchid Show September 2007 Bolero and I judged the September Marrybinong orchid show last night. It was a good show. There were some really interesting and unusual orchids on display at this show, including a few species I'd never seen before. I took a lot of pics. Are you ready for this? Clowesia warsceziana Coel cristata var.lemoniana Coel Jannine Banks Cymb Brunette 'Chocolate Mint' - the fragrance of this flower was intoxicating! | In this post: Cymb Ice on Fire 'Nikita' Cymb Ice on Fire 'Nikita' - these 2 pics are of different plants - this is currently my favorite miniature Cymbid. The miniature Cymbids are my favorite (and you can easily see why here) because they have so many flowers and multiple spikes. Cymb Julie Hawke Cymb Kimberley Winter Cymb Kurralta Park 'Tennyson' Cymb Lerwick Leane Marie 'Crikmar' Cymb Pearl Dawson Cymb Pendragon x Val Wright They were late, but as you can see, Victoria's Cymbidiums have finally come into bloom!

It's easy to see why. Den Burgundy Bride x Ray's Dream Take a closer look at the 2 different Cymb Sara Jean flowers. This is a good hybrid to illustrate the variety possible in a hybrid. There are about 8-10 different cultivars of this hybrid. The most popular and common is probably 'Ice Cascade" which is pure white but this hybrid comes in colours ranging from white to burgundy and some flowers containg green as well.

| Kevin - Fabulous display of flowers/pics - thanks for sharing! Can you post a larger picture of the grand champion so that we can get a better look? I'd like to get a closer look of the flowers. Do you think that miniature Cymbidium that is your favorite is available in the states? Last edited by mayres; 09-08-2007 at 12:08 AM. Reason: addition |

| And in this post: Paph Dalla Paph Flame Arrow x Watercolor Artist Paph Harrisianum Paph Honey Gorse 'Dowlands' Paph rothschildianum Paph Santa Margarita x Margaret Brands Paph Satin Smoke Paph St Pino Check out that first Paph Dalla. It's a miniature exhibition-type! In recent years breeders have been breeding what they call "tea cup Paphs" and they are essentially very small exhibition-type. I've never been a huge fan of enhibition Paphs but I think these are brilliant!

| Not a lot of Phals are grown in Victoria because they can't be grown outdoors here so we don't see many at shows. This show had what was probably the best display of Phals I have seen here. The whole display was awarded the trophy for Pre-eminent Exhibition. Phal Chain Xen Pearl Phal Leopard Princess Phal Long Pride Spark - look at the crazy, wonderful lip on this one! Phal Princess of Love 'Pink Porceline' Phal Anthura Manchester Phal Brother Pico 'Sweetheart' Phal Brother Pico 'Sweetheart' Part of the Phal Display

| And in case you haven't yet had enough....one final post: Phrag Mem Dick Clements Phrag Mem Dick Clements (same plant) Phrag St Ouen Schoenorchis junctifolia - just look how graceful and elegant this one is, what a great species. Woodwardara Beverly Lou Pleurothalis truncata - do you like zillions of flowers on a small plant? This one had nearly 60 little flowers on a plant in about a 3-inch pot. I hope you enjoyed these posts and maybe even learned a little. Let me know if you have questions!!
