Dendrobium keiki?

This phal type dend has thrown what I think must be a keiki. It's firmly attatched to the main cane, and has some nice roots forming. Question is, when do I sepa rate it, and how?

Help please! Judi

I would leave that young growth on Judi
As you have the Den out of the pot I would clean the dead roots off being careful not to damage the healthy roots.
Do a repot with new medium.

That is the normal new growth that your Den produces each year. It is the life of your plant and should never be cut off. The pattern of growth is a chain of growths, each a year older as you count backwards along the chain. Generally, you should never remove old canes that are less than about 4 years old as they provide a storage for the plants future growth, and many older canes will bloom, with or without leaves.
