| Doritis pulcherrima A few months ago I bought one of these. A crowded 4" pot. I moved everything into a larger pot, but nothing much has happened. A bit of foliage die off, which I attributed to the move/repotting. Still nothing after these months, so this morning I yanked it out and had a look. A mass of plants, with a lot of rotted dead roots in the center. Small new roots scattered in there. It wasn't pretty and I could have been more gentle, but I pulled it all apart and cleaned it up. Now I have seventeen (17) plants in individual pots. Most are small, a few moderate size, all have some level of new root developement. All this when I am thinking I need more greenhouse space, with fall and winter coming. What a difference a day makes. J |

| Wow how lucky you are to have a bunch of these babies, i have been going back and forth on which kind of Doritis I want (I want them all ha ha). Good luck with them, they are really beautiful when they bloom. Space, I always need more of that. Fred and I have already discussed that on another thread, and he reccomended that of course taking over the kids rooms was a great idea hee hee.

They take on the form of little birds, of lizards, of insects, a man, a woman, sometimes like a clown who excites our laughter. They represent the image of a lazy tortoise, a melancholy toad, an agile, ever-chattering monkey. Nature has formed orchid flowers in such a way that, unless they make us laugh, they surely excite our greatest admiration." Jacob Breynius |

| I have not seen this one bloom but there were a few dried bloom spikes. Maybe the larger ones will bloom sooner than later. At least the pots are small. Hey, Christmas is coming... what a great little plant to introduce people to orchids, huh? J |

| Yep! This is the season alright. We had our yearly orchid society potluck a few weeks ago and I got one of these as my yearly "freebie/gift"! Cute little flowers just slightly bigger than a dime. I was thinking of trying to photo the bloom one of these days soon and post. |

| Here is a shot of a plant other than the one I split up. It is the Pulcherrima var. chumpornensis variety. Sounds like the Christmas cards will have a picture along with the plant! |

| Looks like you both could be right, and mine is way off. Google on pulcherrima Chumpornensis gives 230 hits, and Champornensis gives 141. Looks like nobody knows the right spelling. Mike, that picture is not of a chumpornensis. It doesn't have the three lips. Don't know the genetics for this mutation, but sometimes a selfing or sib cross does not give 100% results in the offspring for some traits.
