A pair of mounted catts

These were fixed up a couple of months ago. The Hawaiian Wedding catt had dried and dead roots when procured. It has bounced back quite well, roots getting a good hold on the grapewood and new growth as well. Ipa wood base.

The other three (asst) on the teak carving are taking hold and putting out their own (albeit smaller) new growths also.

Wow, very nice indeed! You don't see a lot of mounted Cattleyas but i happen to think somevarieties look great mounted.

Until the plants get established and get their momentum built back up, they may put out a round or two of smaller growths. If theyt like their conditions though, the growths will be larger with each successive cycle until they reach their full adult size again.

Good Growing!

the mountings on the carving look fantastic! The carving itself is awesome. I would love to see it a few years from now when those plants really take hold and spread all out. Nice job.

Absolutely striking SB. It's striking without it in bloom...can you imagine how grand this will be when it begins flowering!!!

SB, I reckon you have done it again; the piece of wood used for the first pic. could stand alone. I have to say I prefer it to the second mount, but what do I know? PLease let us have complete pic. when the plant blooms.

Bill

Totally awesome !! Is that a big fat root I see climbing on the frame in the bottom ? Looks like they are loving it..that's a fine job you did and very artsy as well.

The table mount is a bit more aesthetically pleasing to my eye, perhaps because of its more natural composition. When the plant grows up around the top it should be quite a show. The carving has, I think, quite the potential... when all of those openings are threaded with roots wound about and the foliage reaching up; it will comand it own attention. There are more roots than easily seen in the photo. they are already thru on the back side and winding around.

More tomorrow. BillC, you'll like this next one.

Jeff

"More tomorrow." => Go easy on people like me Each time I see your mounted orchids, my breath is taken away....

Inspired by your pics, Jeff, I went for a walk along the water today looking for driftwood. I found something that might have potential. I had to put up with some teasing from office-mates when I brought it in. I plan to water it for about 3 months or so to see if it holds up to daily watering before attempting to mount an orchid on it.

Can't wait to see the next pictures you post. I am practising my breathing....breathe in, breathe out...

Cheers,
Jo
