A wonderful Day:)

Hey Guys,
I went to west palm beach today to help my mother put up some hurricane shutters and would you believe she had a monster of an epidendrum growing in a tub (not pot a HUGE pot as big as a tub, lol). This thing was monsterous. She had potted a cutting for me and now I have it, but she has it potted in styrofoam and soil???? Are these terrestrial orchids? (The soil is large grade kinda like a bonsai mix). It is sending out new growths....I dunno? It's worked for her, so I think i'll leave it be....

Elite, I don't know what this orchid is, but would love to see a pic, can you post one? I love learning new stuff. Good luck. I'm sure many will give you great advice.

I find epidendrum,s very easy to grow some people say they are almost like weeds.
I grow mine in an orchid house with 70% shade cloth grown in a medium bark mix.
they are also known as crucifix orchids see link

I've grown them in house plant potting mix, but you don't want to keep them overly wet all the time in such a mix, and you probably want to repot more often than you would other wise.
