OH NO, not my sharry baby!!

Hey guys,
I check my plants all the time but baffled as to why i only saw this. My sharry baby has 6 new growths. But look at this miraculous spotting. What could it be? It's like something is leaching out the chloraphyl out of the leaves. Some look like the leaves of a variegated paph? It grows inside on a southeast window sill. Some of the old leaves have it but very minor as compared to the new leaves. I don't want whatever it is to spread to my other plants... Virus?

At our orchid society meeting, they told us it was natural for sherry babies to have spots on their leaves. Cindy aka flowerchild

I believe electric chowder said "is the condition normal for OTHER oncidiums", showing that he realizes that Sharry baby belongs to the oncidium alliance, lol. Also, attached are some pictures of the plant in question. I am not talking about the black spots, I am talking bout the lighter spotting. Thanks

The yellow spots could be due to spider mites, so check the bottoms of the leaves for those.

My spiking twinkle has the same spots... Doesn't seem to bother it. You can see them in the top right of the picture.

The lighter spots on the leaves are indeed the loss of chloraphyl. It is a very minor form of burn on your Sharry Baby.

It will not spread and generally I like to see it on some of mine since it indicates that I have the plant in the maximum light for the plant. It is ideal for abundant flowers.

The same loss of chloraphyl can occur from freeze burn, but certainly not in your case.

Ah yes... A fun thread to be in, I'm sure, but a fun thread to read as well.

I always love coming to these forums. Yay for OG!

Oh--and I gotta get me a Sharry Baby, stat! It was my first orchid years ago, and didn't survive the winter on me, but oh how i loved it while it was in bloom. Now years later, within the last month I've bought 4 orchids and the Sharry Baby is the next one!

love love,
booboo
