| Suggestions for new Phal The pictured orchid is one of my favorites but it has pushed a spike from the middle of the plant and I will toss it after it quits blooming. Its a no name orchid & finding the correc name for this plant would not be easy so I am asking all of you for suggestions for a replacememnt that might be close. The color is actually a bit darker than the picture shows. Your suggestions would be appreciated. |

| Why throw the entire plant away? I know that blooming out of the crown is an aborration but do we know for certain that the plant will immediately die afterwards? Have people documented this or is it somethign that everyone has heard of but no one has ever actually seen? Phals, being Vandaceous can start new growths from the base of the plant. So I'm not convinced that the only or best option is to throw it away. Having said that, what you've got is a wacky Harlequin-type Phal. Here are some links to photo albums featuring Harlequin Phals: Harlequin Phals 1 Harlequin Phals 2 (only those at the very bottom of the page - this person has mistaken splash petal Phals and Harlequins for being the same which they're not) Harlequin Phals 3 These pages should give you a long list of names to start with and you can search form there. Cheers
