Pikevi, what type of netting is that around the dend and catt? Nosey people want to know. I have a forked crepe myrtle branch I've had 4 or 5 years that I want to do something like that with, but I worry the wood may be too smooth. Beautiful mount! Gladys

Thanks Tobi and Gladys47. Gladys47: Those nets are from Lychees (soft shelled chinese juicy fruits) fruit packings. I think , you may, like we do here, get the same net when you buy 2 or 5lb. bags of onions from the supermarkets. I try to use what ever I have at that time of my projects Besides it is FREE

pikevi give yourself a pat on the back you have done an outstanding job with the mount looks realy good Congrats

Thank you fred. It took more than 2 hours to finish the mounts. I am going to the 'orchid doctor' right after lunch (11:55am now) who is closing her shop today. I will see if I can get some orchids at discounted prices.

| Can you disassemble this come winter time? The Phal and the D. nobile are pretty incompatible plants. Nobile needs cool and reduced watering, not to mention high light all the time. Phal needs warmth, regular watering, and low light. I just picked up a C. velutina seedling, and haven't looked up the culture yet.

Pikevi, that's very neat. You sure keep yourself busy as a bee. I want to see how the mixed type of orchids will do on your mount..don't forget updates. Ps. Does your orchid doctor closing down her shop have anything to do with you? Her orchid stock is depleted from your frequent visits ?

Gladys: Crepe Myrtle is a recommended choice for mounting orchids. I have about a dozen equitant oncidiums attached to a three inch diameter piece of crepe myrtle. They love it because they grow on twigs and fence post in their home town. The crepe myrtle wood is more than ten years old and still in solid condition. I drilled a hole through the top of the wood and ran garvanized wire through it for hanging.

Thanks everyone. Cynthia: I just did the mount today. I would probably swap the D. nobile with something else from the attached list or even something else from my previous collection. Thanks for the advice and I'd appreciate any suggestion. prisana: I doubt that. But I will miss her. She is really nice. arleneg: The shop was closed when I went there. So I went around and bought a huge Cymbidium - I am sure it is almost a metre ( more than three feet) high I will post the picture of the Cymbidium tomorrow. This is the list of additional orchids I bought this week: 01) Dendrobium Tora Ohashi 02) Dendrobium Prarit White 03) Mtssa. Cairns 'New River' 04) Dendrobium Kultana Pink 05) Dendrobium anosmum alba (species) 06) Paph. Glaucophyllum Paph. philippinense (big) 07) Paph. Pinocchio X Paph. Philippinense (big) 08) Paph. Philippinense X Paph. Bellatulum 09) Paph. Bill Eilan X 10) Oncidium Sweet Sugar 11) Bllra. Peggy Ruth Carpenter 12) Dendrobium anosmum alba (species) X 2 13) Paph. Chamberlainianum 'Mt. View' X Paph. haynaldianum 'Long Life' (big) 14) Burr. Nelly Isler 15) Paph. delenatii X Moquettianum 16) Phragmipedium Uranis = (Lindleyanum X Grande 4N) /green-mahogany-pink W-S I just copied all the names from the tags. I am sure there are some errors

06) Paph. glaucophyllum Paph. philippinense = Paph Shireen 07) Paph. Pinocchio X Paph. philippinense = Paph Judge Philip 08) Paph. philippinense X Paph. bellatulum = Paph Phoebe 09) Paph. Bill Eilan X (??? looks like the tag is incomplete? but the spelling is wrong too it should be Paph Bill Eilau) 13) Paph. chamberlainianum 'Mt. View' X Paph. haynaldianum 'Long Life' = Paph Myra 15) Paph. delenatii X moquettianum 16) Phragmipedium Uranus = (lindleyanum X Grande 4N) The correct name is Uranus, like the planet. Wow, 13 mistakes on only 7 tags. That has to be a record. Maybe your orchid doctor is going out of business because he/she couldn't write out a correct tag to save his/her life (or business)? In all fairness though the other plant names (the non-slippers) all appear to be correct thought I havn't checked for spelling. You've got some great crosses there! I can't wait to see them flowering! Cheers!

| If you want to combine plants on a mount, you can probably grow the Phal with the members of the oncidium family: 3, 10, 11, and 14 The warm growing Dens, those with stiff leathery leaves, can probably be grown with the Cattleya velutina. I just bought a velutina seedling for $25, so I am not so sure you should be experimenting with that one. The 2 Den anomums will have to be dried off severely during winter, kind of like the nobile, but you don't want to cool them off, just keep them at the same temp as the Catt and the warm Dens. The Kultana Pink is probably a warm/Phal type, and if you compare your other Den hybrids to the Kultana Pink and your nobile, you should be able to determine which type each of your Dens is. Don't bother with the anosmums, as they are of neither type.

Thanks Cynthia. I will try an Oncidium since I have a good number of them in my collection. Flowerchild: I apologize. They never advertised and a friend of mine took me there. Although I will have to admit that I may NOT have informed you since I would not have expected you to drive up here. It is my fault. Next time I will inform you without assuming anything. Please forgive me for the oversight. (Me is sitting in a corner, sulking
