Rainy Season...

Ok Here is a couple of pictures of my fantastic outdoor growing space. Notice my Shade screen in the background which provides direct sun from about 7am to 12:30.. My question is it's been raining almost everyday for a week now. Should I be considered about root rot or should I be ok since the temps have been in the mid 80's? Don't want to blow all of this years growth because I was too lazy to bring them out of the rain.. They are Catts,Oncidiums, and a Phal Type Dendrobium....

Can't answer your question, sorry but I love, love, love your backyard. I know I'd grow happily there. A little slice of heaven....

I wish I had your rain problems Kazjack. We have half the average rain fall this season and I am only a couple hours north.

Beautiful little Speck by the way. I will have to dig out some on my fish pics. to compare.

Steve

Thanks for all the kudos on the yard... We're actually still in a moderate drought (according to the all knowing weather man) but just in the last couple weeks we've been getting dumped on. I think it's mainly because I was on vacation. Trees aren't always a wonderful thing.. They provide nice shade but they fall down when storms come and drop leaves often.. But everyman should own a chain saw anyway right?

Why would you need a vacation away from home when you have a backyard like that?

Very nice orchids too.

It's been raining here everyday last week, too. I didn't worry about root rot too much because all of my orchids are grown in either a basket or on a mount. They dry up by afternoon at temperatures in the mid 80's. I don't know if that applies to your situation or not.

I am facing the same problem here in texas. Heavy rain almost every single day for weeks and the media in the pots can never get dry. I took all the plants in pots to a sheltered location. The bark was very saturated and i noticed some roots starting to get black.
I only left the plants hanging in baskets exposed to the rain since they get lots of air around.

Hey kazjak,

It just clicked in my brain that you're in northern Ohio and I used to live in Southern Michigan. Have you ever visited Taylor' Orchids in Dundee Michigan (about 15 mintues from the border)?

Well i can understand that. Its size alone i think exerts some sort of gravational pull. Anyway, Let me know if you want directions to Taylor's. It's a good nursery and I have some friends that work there.
