stragged is on a distinguished road
Question regarding how long of a time a developing flower spike can take... I have had an orchid throwing out a small spike for about a week, when all of a sudden the bottom end started to brown up. It has been about a week since it started, and the brown coloration hasn't progressed that much, but the spike has completely stopped growing. The tip of the spike is still green, and the plant has finally jettisoned the other spike's flowers. (The previous flowers lasted over six weeks, which is a good amount for this vanda...)

So, do you think I blasted the spike, and it won't return to growth, or is there still a small shot in the dark for the spike to make it?

Good question stragged and one many of our readers may benefit from so I have seperated your post into an entirely new thread. There are several good Vanda growers here (I'm not one of them) so you should get a useful answer shortly.

Cheers

I haven't had this happen to me, stagged. My spikes stay firm and green and continue to stretch out. I have a feeling you may have lost this one. I have been advised not to have more than one spike on the plant as it does stress the plant, although many people keep both spikes. Perhaps your plant wasn't able to keep up with both.
