| I just got this beauty yesterday. The bulbs are a dark purplish in some areas. Any idea what this means? Lisa

| Purple often means they got a lot of sunshine, at least on the leaves. I've got a Brassada that has leaves that are mostly purple, and it is doing great, just putting out some new growth. You'll want to watch out though that it doesn't get TOO much sun...if purple starts turning yellow, your plants are likely being sunburned. |

| Hi Lisa, I agree with Snowball in that sometimes if a plant is exposed to too much sunlight, it will manufacture a redish-purple pigment much like a human's skin will turn red from too much sun exposure. Try and filter the sunlight it's getting and that should resolve the issue. By the way, very lovely orchid!! P.S. The correct spelling of the genus is Colmanara (kole-man-AH-rah) Last edited by Tobi; 07-20-2007 at 05:01 PM. |

| Boxerfan, I am going to do a Kevin here, the correct spelling of the name is COLMANARA, but it's correct name is now Odontocidium which is it's official RHS ratified name. So you have an Odontocidium Wildcat 'Rainbow'. Bought one plant and came out with another. ![]()

Here is a list of hybrids affected by the change. Colmanaras not on this list remain Colmanaras.

| I can hear you mumbling under your breath Lisa. Real pain isn't it ? I have a document which is about 10 pages long with the changes. It is STILL where I filed it,............. if I could remember where THAT is.

| My Odontocidium wildcat is still just sitting with the floral spike. It is almost 6 weeks ( or more). Very little change. I guess I will have to say 'good-bye' to it. May be moving it out under the sun did not agree with it. I will post a photo later. |

| I think I'll have to wait until next year for my Odontocidium (formerly known as Colmanara) Wild Cat 'Bob Cat' to flower, it is still a young plant. Dang !

| This is the spike of the Odontocidium Wildcat "Bobcat". While photographing it I noticed that the top 5-6 cm (2") are brown and dry. I have moved it into the portable GH. Anything else I could do to save the spike? Thanks. |

| Hmmm...I did a little digging. First of all I found that Oncidium fuscatum, one of the species that had its name changed thus triggering the movement of many Colmanaras to Odontocidium, is one of the grandparents of Wild Willie. I also found that Wild Willie is a fairly new cross, having been registered only 3 years ago in 2004. I suspect that Wild Willie was not registered until after the document listing the name changes was p |
