Hi,
Picked up a Encyclia Prismatocarpum today. It only has one spike on it &, if thats all it had I wouldn't have put out money for it, BUTTTTTTTTTTT, it has 6 new pseudo bulbs on it. I expect a bonanza in 6-8 months. Question is should I re-pot this baby after it quits blooming.

Hello, just a friendly visit from the nomenclature police. Enc prismatocarpum is a species orchid and therefore the second part of the name, the species name or the specific epithet is not capitalized.

I LOVE this species!!! It is one of my 5 or 6 favorite Encyclias. The starry shaped flower and the nice green beautiful colouration make it a reall winner! Should be easy to grow too!

I can't get my prismatocarpum to bloom, but that is off topic. There are usually only two reasons to repot. It has out grown the pot, and will be over the edge before the new growth matures. Or because the potting mix has broken down. Encyclias are not surper sensitive to stale mix, so, if it is in bark, put a finger on top of the mix and press down. If the bark pushes bark, it is good, and leave it another season. If your finger goes into the pot, it is time to repot IF the new growth is out a ways, and about to, or has barely just, started to put out its first roots. At any other season you should wait for this critical time of rooting. If it is something other than bark, well, need to know what.
