Thumbs up Den and Zyg

Hi Everyone, Not visited the site for ages, but have now retired so was hoping to have more time - at the moment don't seem to be able to fit everything in.

Just wanted to say thankyou for the good advice you gave me back in April regarding the two sickly orchids I bought at the garden centre. I am happy to say they both survived and the Zyg is now flowering (as shown in my Avatar) if anyone can give me any info whatsoever, variety etc, I would be very grateful, thankyou in advance, Chris.

Congrats tizzycat! Very cool looking flower. I'm sure someone will be along who has more experience than I with Zyg. That would be anyone else here.

What a great reward for you... survival and now a beautiful bloom to thank you for your efforts. Good job!

Congrats on your retirement!!

Almost all Zygo flowers look similar and hybribs often do not vary much. But they are beutiful and the smell so good.

hello tizzycat, congratulations on retiring and on bringing your orchids through their rough time, I just brought a zygo about two weeks ago , it is not in flower but has lots of new growth, does yours have black spots on the leaves? I have been reading up on this and it seems to be a common problem but it still bothers me. eva

yes there are shiny black patches on the trunk, but the plant seems healthy in spite of them. I did wonder..... but given that the plant was sick when I bought it I put it down to neglect. If anyone can give any ifo about the patches it would be reassuring. Thanks, Chris

hello again tizzycat, from what I have read on the internet cold stagnant air or letting your plant get to dry can both cause black spotting and streaking of the leaves on a zygo .I have not had mine long enough to know yet, hope this helps. eva
