Talking two new spikes on Brassia

I am so excited. I was misting my Brassia with worm tea this morning and discovered 2 new spikes on it. This is the Brs. that I just got two weeks ago and when I got it home, the flowers wilted within 24 hours and died in less than a week. I guess this means it has forgiven me for the move from the greenhouse and likes its new home. Lisa

Lisa, I remember when you got your brassia. I had just seen this at Home Depot, was sorry that I had left without it and was thinking about going back, then saw your post and that did it for me. I went back and bought one too!

I'm excited for you. Good going. It more than forgives you....it loves you!!!!

I've been back-and-forth trying to decide the best medium for this plant (and others I have) and I think I'm going to leave it in bark with some sphag added. What potting mix is your plant in? Do you keep it indoors/outdoors?

Congrats!!!!

Judi,
Don't you just love it when you see that spike. My Den. NOID has has just
started to bloom. It has 13 buds on the 1 spike. My Onc. ornithorhynchum
"lilac soap" is also throwing out a flower spike. This little guy has blooms
that smell like a strong lilac smell. Quite heavenly.

Lisa,
Can't wait to see some pics when it blooms. Brassias' are one of my favorites

Sandra: My Brs. is in a bark medium (1/4"-1/2") same as my Paphs. are in. They came that way from the greenhouse at Carter & Holmes, I figure they know what they are doing. My Brsdm. appears to be in some type of peat mix and I'll repot to smal bark after it has finished flowering. Right now, both my Brs. and Brsdm. are spending most of their time on my front porch. The nights are about 76* and 90% humidity and the days go into the mid 90's with 40%-55% humidity. Breezes are intermittent and light intensity is about 3000 fc for 8-9 hours during the day. I do bring them in when a storm comes up. I'm watering every 3-4 days and misting with worm tea 3-4 times/ week. Hope this helps. Good luck with your new 'chid.

kazjak: thanks for sharing the picture of your baby. We lost our Autumn to Cancer in May, 2006. That's her jumping in my avatar. Luckily, we still have Cooper (Boxer) and Riis (Boykin Spaniel).

Thanks to all for the well wishes and support. Lisa
