| Cast Away Orchids
On an adventure to Lowes, for a lamp for my living room, I strolled by the orchid section as I usually do to admire the flowers. Can't help it, I'm a sucker for pretty orchids. As I was doing my circut, I noticed a car tbehind the orchid display of Phals and Catts that had dropped their flowers and were being sold for DIRT cheap. Large Phals that usually go for $30-$35 were discounted to $3. I couldn't help myself...I bought two...thinking I can save them. If your looking for some cheap plants and your not worried about a fixer up I suggest going to your local home improvement store and looking for their cast offs.
Now we all know these type of places aren't always keen for buying orchids because of they way they are treated in store. This can cause them to develop all sorts of problems. What is a good rule of thumb on quarantine? I know you shouldn't immediately place new plants with your collection, but what are some good rules of thumb to look for on when its safe to move in with general population. Also what are the most communicable diseases/pests to keep an eye out for now that I have them.
